Introduction

It was a cool morning as I arrived at the quiet Ridge early…oh crap forgot the tape for my stations so had to sprint home…sudden change.  After arriving back I quickly got the Merry Go Round of Pain set up while Sheldon & Beat Box set up outdoor coffeteria.  Tourniquet arrived early for his 200th post (T-Claps) pitching me to make sure my “modifications” did not involve the words “contra”, “jungle-boi”, or hand release.

After getting set up we quickly got to work as i repeated the almost identical workout to my very first Q.

The Thang

THANG 1 & 2 – MERRY GO ROUND OF PAIN

Set up 8 stations in the pavilion in circular fashion with an exercise at each station. One individual sits in the middle “The Conductor” & does 30 Big Boys. The Merry Go Round does not rotate until “The Conductor” finishes their Big Boys & then shuffles around the Merry Go Round. Once “The Conductor” taps your shoulder after shuffling around the PAX will sprint out to the first cones in parking lot & do 10 merkins, then will sprint to the other side of the parking lot & do 10 mountain climbers, & then finish by sprinting back to the pavilion.  Upon return you hold squat or plank until the 6 is back.  New “Conductor” gives a 10 count then rinse & repeat.  The list of stations (with coupon) below:

  • Squats
  • Curls
  • Lunges
  • Bent Over Row
  • LBCs
  • Chest Press
  • Box Jumps (no coupon)
  • Push Press

  • This past year F3 Naperville has helped to change my life, more than just fitness. It truly has impacted me on every level of the 3 F’s & that is why today I want to share maybe the 3 most impactful moments in my F3 journey that also coincide with the 3 F’s:
    • August 29th 2019 fitness. I struggled running across that field to that bridge where I completed a brutal partner workout.  We then followed it up with partner push ups when I thought I was going to die but then I was told to run to the hill where we would proceed to run backwards.  These are things that were out of my comfort zone & pushed me beyond what I though I could do.  At that moment I knew I had found something special.
    • October 26th 2019 fellowship. After a Saturday beat down at BP a group of men encouraged me to go over to the Outpost b/c there was a special event going down for Bob Ross. A 66 year old man who had been color blind his whole life.  The brothers of F3 Naperville all chipped in & with the help of Dr. Ralph the men purchased a pair of color blind glasses so BR could see color for the first time.  Upon arrival there were probably 75 F3 brothers & BR’s family waiting for him to come in from the workout.  He was shocked & the gratitude outpoured.  I watched the men of F3 Naperville socialize & give praise & gratitude to the man they call The Lion of Naperville.  It was that same man who pulled me aside not to long after that who told me I was a natural leader & it was time for me to step up & lead the men of Naperville needed me.  Less than a month later on Nov 21st I did my VQ.
    • February 1st 2020 faith. This morning I watched over 100 men converge on North Central College to remember a fallen brother Noonan.  Ironically enough I had just met him for the first time 2 days ago at my first time at The Citadel where they awarded him a bottle of whiskey for joining the respect club on his 50th birthday, then 24 hours later he was gone. In a short 24 hour time a group of men many who I barely knew gathered to honor him.  If you were not there just imagine 100 men doing motivators in a tight circle with brick walls all around you, “shivers up your spine”. Then I watched men push through a grueling workout. Then it concluded with Noonan’s wife & kids showing up & few strong men honoring Noonan in front of the family. I watched grown men openly crying while other grown men some of whom did not know each other that well wrapping arms around each other.

That is what this is all about men.  Embrace your time & embrace every one of the three F’s b/c this will give back to you more than you will ever get out of it if you embrace it.  Aye
