Circle of Trust
We ended with 15 seconds of reflections on the word “Lucky” during Have-A-Nice-Day.
I shared a story about watching the Notre Dame basketball coach the night before during the opening round of March Madness. His team was up, then down, up, then down…regulation time, then OT, then OT again! Up and down, up and down. What a visual metaphor for life. And what a visual the coach provided as he continued to smile and laugh through the whole up and down experience…eventually winning the game and also even though I’m not a fan of Notre Dame, he won some respect from people like me who were watching.
I also shared a story about how the day before this run club, I had to call 911 for my dad. He called me after he took a fall and split his head open. He was talking weird on the phone and was all alone. I called 911 and they took care of him, he got 4 stitch, no concussion but left a pool of blood in the driveway where he fell. My dad is 81 years old and was trying to fix the garage door and slipped somehow when a rope broke causing him to fall backward and gash his head. He says he doesn’t know how long he was laying there but he remembers telling himself “I got to get up…this is how Bob Saget died.” Again, he’s all good a day later now.
It both of these stories I think how the word “lucky” can be experienced in our lives.
In the first, it’s “lucky” to experience such joy and appreciation in the moment.
In the second, it’s “lucky” to surround ourselves with information, knowledge, and resources like family and paramedics to help when we seriously need it.
So, on this St. Patrick’s Day, I wish you call continued luck in all you do. I know I consider myself “lucky” to be with you all here today.
Prayers.
