Introduction

Arrived at IL @ 4:50 to new fallen snow and peaceful calm.  Scouted the perimeter.  PAX all accounted for, so it’s time to go.  Cousin Eddie has my back.  Welcomed all in attendance and went through the disclaimer.  Asked the name of our FNG.  I told him jokingly that his birth name died today ITG and that he was about to be reborn.  The theme of today’s workout is Accountability.  The workout was conducted in the celebration of the life of James M. Campbell, Jr. (Bompie) who passed away 25 years ago yesterday.  James M. Campbell V assembled the playlist in his honor based off countless stories he’s heard about his great grandfather for the workout.  I hope you like country and America!  Rucks up and off ITG!

Warm-O-Rama

The Thang

Total ruck run was approximately 3 miles (according to the watch) throughout Community Park with the following stops along the way.

Octagon, Pavilion x 3, Train Bridge, benches x 3

Ruck curls x 10

Ruck high pulls x 10

Ruck overhead press x 10

Bear Hug Ruck Squats x 10

  • Pavilion additions – fireplace step-ups 10 each leg.  Everyone else – shoulder taps x 15 and then hold plank until step-ups are completed.  Switch.
  • Train bridge additions – 20 x unity squats (2)
  • Bridge audibles x 2 – on your toes (2), Side lunges half way (1)
  • Bench additions (sans ruck work) – Piano Keys.  Three Pax to a bench for 10 incline Merkins while the rest hold Al Gore.  Go down the row like piano keys until completed.

Called a Baby Hands audible and rucked past the lights as a head fake for the PAX to give the impression that we would be running through Mary.  Groans were heard from those that were at the front.  Never ask if we are stopping at the lights Chilidawg!  🙂  Still stopped for Mary.  Just further down the path and walked back.

Circle of Trust

Welcomed FNG Roxxy (up from Miami to visit his bro-in-law @HotBox).

Cousin Eddie had the mic for announcements and reminders. F3 lunch @ Twin Peaks this Friday.  Our good friend @HotBox VQ tomorrow at Iron Lion.  Reminder of the Bump Memorial Run.

Prayer for Trickle’s cousin (Kelly Horan) who was diagnosed with cancer and for an unnamed HIM.  Prayers for all of those who find this time of year extremely difficult.

Naked Man Moleskin

I have been inspired by the rawness and genuine messages shared during the CoTs of late by our recent Qs.  I thought about these words and it got me thinking about my grandfather’s legacy, a poem and David Coggins’ Accountability Mirror.  The idea of standing in front of an Accountability Mirror has been with me for a long time.  Regrettably, I’ve fallen in and out of the practice over the years and could always do and be better.  We absolutely have to take time to look ourselves in the eye and identify those things in our lives that either need to be nourished, or put out with the trash (Thanks @Goldberg for the reminder) to be our best selves.  In this spirit I leave you with the words from a poem that hangs on a wall in my great uncles’ basement that leads out to his pasture of horses.  He still tends to his horses personally at 89, is built like a brick –it house and he has no problem standing in front of a mirror.

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
and the world makes you king for a day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
and see what that man has to say

For it isn’t your father or mother or wife
who judgment upon you must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts the most in your life
is the one staring back from the glass

Some people may think you are a straight-shooting chum
and call you a wonderful guy
But the guy in the glass says you’re only a bum
if you can’t look him straight in the eye

He’s the fellow to please never mind all the rest
for he’s with you clear up to the end
And you’ve passed your most dangerous difficult test
if the man in the glass is your friend

You may fool the whole world down the pathway
of life and get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartaches and
tears if you’ve cheated the man in the glass.

Thanks Bompie for reading this to me countless times before I could read it on my own and showing me how to stand in front of a mirror and look myself in the eye.

Ended with an Our Father.
