Introduction

For a few weeks, YHC has been wanting to mix things up with a run course that was a bit non-traditional. YHC wanted to wait a bit to do it until we were hopefully past some questionable weather, making it a bit dangerous. Today was the day.

Got the preblast up, and gave people a fair warning about doing some off roading. Posted the course in the thread, and went back to other things.

It must be getting close to race season – there were quite a few HCs by the time it was bedtime.

Woke up, just before the alarm went off – got out the door and over to the AO to get some cones set up. The weather was cool, but felt good – it was gunna be a good day for running.

After getting cones set, made it back to the lot and waited for PAX to arrive.

5:15 rolled around – core principles were shared and disclaimer given. Off we went!

Warm-O-Rama

3 SSH in cadence – It’s a run club after all – let’s run!

Mosey west in the lot – after a couple rows, shuffle left across the lot, mosey forward a row, shuffle right across the lot. Bernie Sanders back to the flag, run across the lot and back.

Circle up – count up – 22 PAX

Mosey to the pavilion by the baseball fields, do a few high knees and butt kickers along the way.

Group up near the start – course was quickly explained.

The Thang

Thang 1

YHC Explained the course:

Run up the side of the hill, when it clears out, turn left (past the cone) and go along the path, across the bridge on the south side of the hill, turn left (past the cone) run toward the soccer field by the church, run around the soccer field (outside each of the cones) and into the parking lot, run around the parking lot, toward the baseball fields. Run along the warning track of both fields until back to the path, turn right at the path and back to the pavilion. It’s about a mile loop.

On your own Let’s go – WAIT – everyone back in the lot at 5:55

Mary

YHC arrived back at the flags right at 5:55 and began with a couple pax while the rest trickled in.

Standing Hamstring Stretch right and left.

Circle of Trust

It seems people have been carrying around a lot of “stuff” recently. There is an acronym for this, that YHC cannot recall now, but it basically talks about everything you bring to to the table affecting the way you are at the table. Obviously, there have been continued prayers for Hot Box and Boy Sandwich and their situations, recently a family friend of Rusty was killed in a car accident, and it is stuff that we are all having to deal with.

As a HIM, I think we need to remain steadfast, so we can support those around us –

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart”
– Proverbs 3:3

While this is probably talking about relationship between our Father in heaven and the steadfast love we are given, it is an example of how we are to live. This doesn’t mean we cannot show emotions, or feel pain, but it does mean we may need to be called on to support those around us.

An analogy I’ve used in the past is we want to be the flagpole, not the flag. When the wind blows in different directions, we feel it, but we can remain unwavering. We can rely on the strength of our faith in order to do this.

Prayers were said, expressing YHCs gratitude for the other pax who push me to get better, and the fellowship we have with each other, which helps all of us get just a little stronger every day. Special prayers were said for Subway’s MIL, Gladys, Tonka’s friend who lost a father and another friend battling cancer, and for the Dickerson family, who was mentioned above – losing the mother in a car accident, who was a church member, wife, mother and a school teacher. Prayers for peace for all those she touched in her life.

Naked Man Moleskin

YHC was grateful the weather cooperated and we were able to mix it up. Every now and then a plan seems to come together, and it paid off. PAX seemed to really enjoy a different spin on the run club at the Citadel. YHC needs to continue to raise the bar with the next one…

Special thanks to Upstream and Sam Walton for grabbing cones so YHC wouldn’t have to run an EC lap after the beatdown to gather stuff.

Stay Puft – maybe a water station next time around. 🙂
