Introduction

PREBLAST BLACK DIAMOND RUN CLUB WEDNESDAY 12/1/21 5:00AM
1 YEAR MANNIVERSARY
SPECIAL LOCATION: STECK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

None of you would be surprised, but I get this a lot:
Random Neighbor: “Glenn, how you’d go from having 10 inch biceps to 20 inches in year?”
Me: “F3 Baby!”
As much as I’d love to hit those curls tomorrow :muscle:, we’re going to do my 2nd favor thing. We’re going to run .
Come celebrate my  :one: year  and hit me with your :alphabet-white-h::alphabet-white-c::arrow_down:!
:flashlight: P.S. Highly recommend bringing a headlamp if you’ve got one. :flashlight: No warm up, be ready to go right at 5AM.

Warm-O-Rama

No Warm Up.  5 principles and go time.

The Thang

The key is going to not stop moving at any point.  We will start each hill repeat and interval together.  Faster runners will get more of a recovery between intervals.  Expectation will be to run interval hard then recover jog and pick up the 6.  Up hills hard, recover on the way down.  Cones or markers at the interval stops.

5:00-5:09 1.24 mile from Steck to base of the hill, First 0.25 miles will be together until the corner of McCoy and Kautz, then Indian run to base of hill.

5:09-5:17 5 hill repeats (0.64 miles)

5:17- 5:30 Interval repeats.  0.5 miles to trail split.  0.25 miles to where the trail spits again.  0.5 miles to trail split on the right.  0.4 miles back to the bottom of the hill.

5:31-5:39 5 hill repeats (0.64 miles)  Only got in 4 out of 5 until 5:48 to head back.

5:39-5:44 2 0.25 mile intervals from base of hill to fork in trail, then return to base of hill for 2nd interval.  Had to cut out.

5:46-5:50 5 hill repeats or until 5:50 (0.64 miles) Had to cut out due to time.  I’m sure all of the PAX were disappointed 🙂

5:50-6:00 1.24 mile Indian run back to Steck.  I cut this short with 0.4 miles to go at the corner of Kautz and McCoy and had the PAX run together back to Steck.  YHC was so gassed that I cut it short so I could catch my breath.

If we still have time, interval runs from Steck parking lot over the bridge and back. Wasn’t needed.  Did 20 Big Boys for the last minute while the remaining PAX made it back.

Circle of Trust

I joined F3 back in December 2nd of last year.  I’ve had the intention to improve my running and I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished, but that’s not what I love most about F3.  My favorite part has been seeing others achieve their successes:

  • Sam Walton crushing his 5k time and running sub 7 miles
  • Serena running a sub 1:30 half marathon.
  • Gloop running a PR for 5 miles at 7 minute pace and doing his first 15 mile run at 2:45 AM during Lincoln games with YHC.  Can’t believe you convinced me to do that run Gloop.
  • Bush Push getting a heck of a lot faster and in the best shape of his life.
  • Tiny Dancer at 20 19 years old getting out there and killing it.  I was a lazy bum at 20 19.  (Sorry Tiny, I jumped the gun.  Thought you’d just turned 20 instead!)
  • Those upcoming goals: Ball Boy running a sub 1:30 half.

Others I didn’t mention in my CoT because I didn’t want to take up more of the PAX time, but were pretty cool:

  • Aladdin running a sub 1:35 half marathon
  • Tonka, Blues, and Poutine running Chicago
  • The Palmetto and Ragnar guys absolutely killing it in those challenging races.
That’s what I get hyped about.  Seeing you guys better yourselves and get after it is a hell of a lot more exciting than my own personal success.  All of you inspire me to better.  Thank you for being my friends and bringing me joy.
Aye!

Naked Man Moleskin

YHC was a bit under the weather, was feeling about 75% this morning, still had some chills.  My M scheduled flu and covid shots for us on Monday evening.  YHC didn’t think much of it until the day of and forgot how much my last covid shot knocked me out.  That was a dumb mistake on my part.  I was miserable with the chills all day Tuesday and wasn’t fully recovered this morning.  Bush Push graciously reached out to me to switch BDRC weeks with him, but I was so pumped for this workout that I didn’t want to delay any further.

About 2 months ago, I told Serena that I really wanted to do my Manniversary at this location and focus on the massive hill.  Curds did a BD here last winter that included hill repeats and it was absolutely brutal, so what better way to celebrate!

Drove to the Oakhurst Forest Preserve at about 4:30 to setup cones for the intervals around the Lake.  It was very dark, and I hate running through the forest preserve by myself at night.  So I texted Ball Boy and Serena and told them if I don’t show up at Steck at 5AM, just assume a coyote got me.

Given the circumstances, I thought I might be the 6 at my own Q, however, the PAX really kept the energy up and made it a pretty fun run.  Really appreciate Gloop and Harbaugh encouraging myself and the group to keep going even when I was completely gassed on the 2nd set of hill repeats.  That hill is an absolute beast, it at least took my soul and maybe a couple of other PAX.  Ball Boy, thank you for covering the 6, you knew you had your work cut out for you today with the darkness and trails.

After 1 year, I’ve loved the competitiveness and hard workouts, but never did I consider I’d make such great friends in this group.  All of you humble me with your positivity, willingness to give (including your own blood for my M’s challenge), and kindness.  Thank you all for showing up for my 1 year, I had an awesome time, and can’t wait to build on this first year.
