Introduction

I arrived to the AO a little after 5:00 and got the coffee brewing so we could have onsite Coffeeteria after the beatdown. It was great to see a diverse mix of PAX; the BP regulars, plenty of other Naperville PAX, Wreck-it-Ralph and Joe Dirt from Plainfield, and an FNG (Wreck-it’s brother Matthew).

A few PAX were just getting back to their cars after their EC rucks. It is great to see what Lincoln Games brings out in people.

Warm-O-Rama

  • SSH IC x 20
  • Abe Vigodas IC x 10

The Thang

Thang 1

  • Drop coupons in NW corner of the lot, then Indian Run to the parking lot NW of the baseball fields
  • Waterfalls (10 merkins then 10 squats) in the lot
  • Indian run back to coupons

Thang 2

  • DORA
    • Partner A works towards 50 Blockees, 100 Curls, 150 Chest Press
    • Partner B runs to the second set of speed bumps and does 10 SSH then runs back
    • Switch
  • Mosey to the bottom of the hill

Thang 3

  • DORA
    • Partner A does 10 reps of BLIMPS at the bottom of the hill
    • Partner B runs 3/4 of the way up the hill, does Clock Merkins (5 reps each at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00), Bernie Sanders to the top of the hill, then run down
    • Switch

Thang 4

  • Team exercise – circle up around the Q. We performed 20 SSH in cadence. I counted cadence to 5 reps, then went silent. The group had to all finish the 20th rep together, or there would be a penalty. The group did fairly well, but not perfect, so 3 burpees OYO were performed.

Circle of Trust

Aerosmith’s song Amazing has a lyric that goes “Life’s a journey, not a destination.” [I asked Crambone to belt this out for us, but he acted like he didn’t know the song. :)]

That quote is often attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson. What Emerson really said was:

“To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.”

What does this mean? Well, let me put it in the context of setting and striving to achieve goals.

James Clear has a theory on this called the Compass Theory. It states:

“The problem with a treasure hunt is that most people spend all of their time thinking about the treasure. The fastest way to get to a particular spot, however, is to set your compass and start walking.

The idea here is to commit to your goal with the utmost conviction. Develop a clear, single-minded focus for where you are headed. Then, however, you do something strange. You release the desire to achieve a particular outcome and focus instead on the slow march forward.

Pour all of your energy into the journey, be present in the moment, be committed to the path you are walking. Know that you are moving unwaveringly in one clear direction and that this direction is right for you, but never get wrapped up in a particular result or achieving a certain goal by a specific time.

In other words, your goal becomes your compass, not your buried treasure. The goal is your direction, not your destination. The goal is a mission that you are on, a path that you follow. Whatever comes from that path — whatever treasure you happen to find along this journey — well, that’s just fine. It is the commitment to walking the path that matters.”

Have a quote unquote goal in mind. But don’t lose sight of the steps you are taking to get there. Make it about those steps. Live in the moment.

Naked Man Moleskin

BP is such a great AO. There is tons of room, and I wanted to explore it with this beatdown. I hadn’t been to the lot on the other side of the baseball fields before, and that worked well for the Waterfalls, even with 16 PAX.

Several PAX stuck around for onsite coffeeteria and mumblechatter afterwards. A few headed out for EC rucks, while O’Douls, RX, and Crambone stayed after to discuss the Live Right Q Point of Q Source.
