Introduction
About a week before the workout, I picked up the 11-12 Q slot from Smokey and began to think of what I could do for a fun workout, given this one was tagged as a 2.0 workout. I wanted to make it fun for the kids so I tried to throw in a few exercises that I thought the kids would enjoy, like leap frog with the family, cartwheels, bear crawls, inch worms, to name a few. I made my final touches to the Q agenda the night before, as I usually do. I created a new playlist for the occasion, knowing that all my other “typical” Q playlists were probably PG-13 rated. I found some good tunes. I was all set.
The morning of the workout started early for me as I hit 4 BCs starting at 3:00am and ending at 7:00. I went home in between, showered, changed clothes and fell asleep on the couch for an hour, before getting up, and getting the 2 2.0’s that were joining me for the 11:00 workout, up and ready to go. We arrived about 20 minutes early and there was already groups there on the hill itching to get going. I grabbed my cones and headed to the base of the backside of the hill and laid out the course for the day. The original HCs indicated around 25, but as it turned out we ended up with 53 in attendance.
The sun was out and it actually ended up being a warm day for the end of November with temps in the upper 40’s. I was overdressed for sure as were my 2.0’s as I kept telling them to dress warm. My bad. Before I knew it, it was go time. I rounded up all 53 in a circle to start off and we were off.

I gave thanks for the opportunity to lead the group and for all those that came out to have some quality family time together while also burning some calories.
I wanted to focus the message on being thankful in times of challenge and to focus on the important things in life. I pulled out a message that I have used before, that I thought would resonate with the kids.
One day, a rich dad took his son on a trip to a Village. He wanted to show him how poor someone can be. They spent time on the farm of a poor family. On their return from the trip, the father asked the son, “how was the trip?”The boy replied, “it was great dad.”
“Did you see how poor people live?” The father asked. “Oh, yes” said the son. “So tell me what you learned from the trip?” Asked the father.
The son answered, “we have one dog, they have 4. We have a pool, they have rivers. We use light bulbs at night, they use stars. We buy foods, they grow theirs. We have walls and fences to protect us, they have friends. We have TV, and they spend time with their family.”
The boys father was speechless. Then the son added, “thanks dad for showing me how poor we are.”
Moral of the story is, it is not about the money that makes us rich, its simplicity, love, compassion, friendship, values, family that makes our lives rich.
2020 May not be the year where we get everything we want. But is the year we appreciate everything we have.
It was great seeing a lot of faces out that I don’t always get to see and even greater seeing all the 2.0s out there getting after it and having some fun. I hope all the PAX and 2.0s enjoyed the workout, as I tried to incorporate some fun exercises.
It was a blast leading all and I look forward to the next one.
