Circle of Trust
This is an ice cream scoop. I doubt I’d be able to get a couple of bucks for it at a garage sale. The world looks at this and they see a piece of metal with no intrinsic value. However, I see a little boy with bright fire engine red hair sitting at his grandfather’s kitchen table being consoled with a bowl of ice cream after running with a garden hose between his legs that came up short. He’d thought he’d cut off his wee-wee. I see a 15 year old sharing ice cream with his grandfather after his grandfather had taught him how to drive a manual transmission for the first time. I see countless family celebrations. I do not see something worthless. I see something priceless. This is my challenge to you. Find something that you can share with someone you love. A baseball mitt, a fishing pole, a tea set, or maybe a book. Fill it with love and memories. This way when the person you care about looks at it, they do not see something worthless, they see something priceless because of the memories it holds.

Naked Man Moleskin
My grandfather (Bompie) passed away when I was 19 years old just weeks before Christmas. He was the patriarch of our family in every way. We were all crushed by his loss and his death is still difficult for me to think about even now. Weeks after he was buried my grandmother (NaNa) asked her grandchildren to select something of Bompie’s that spoke to us. There were watches, bolero ties, handkerchiefs, money clips and other every day carry items. I offered to pick last being the oldest of the grandchildren. The only thing I wanted was the ice scream scoop that I’d seen him use with the precision of a surgeon hundreds of times. I’d like to think that he sees me with my boys, sharing ice cream together and having some of the same meaningful conversations that I had with him over the years. My boys know about their great grandfather through countless stories. We have a couple of ice cream scoops in our house, but they know that there is only one that I’ll use. “I’ll get Bompie’s ice cream scoop for you, dad”.
Holy smokes! Today was filled with a group of killers. Great to see all of your faces! There was a gassy baby, a guy named Shoeless (who I think was wearing track spikes), Sputnik who faced the wrath of a not so pleased M after locking himself out of the house and waking up his household just to be on time as Site-Q, a cowboy that does not need a horse to fly, a guy with a quick draw (RESPECT) and no quit that is bringing the madness to March, a devil that does not move for pictures, a guy who must have gotten the name Nose Job after finding the only spot of ice in a parking lot, a coupon painting master that now has another new exercise that rightfully bears his name, a man that can always make it rain, or make me smile by simply stating; “nice Ronda”, a dude named Chain Link that also knows what it’s like to be the proud owner of a SB car and not care.
