Introduction

Another awesome morning at Iron Lion!  Pulled in early to set up and caught a glimpse of Goldberg taking off for some EC.  A true predator in the wild.  Some very welcome late HC’s and a surprise guest, so I quickly redid some math.

The Thang

Thang 1

Die Hard

Mosey with coupons to the bottom of the hill.

Elevators up Nakatomi Plaza (hill).

  1. Army crawl up hill. 20 x squats at top.  Nur back down.
  2. Side walk up hill with coupon (flip half way).  20 x squats at top.  Mosey back down.
  3. Sprint up hill.  Placed a bet on Nacho and GB to determine number of squats done at the top.  Nacho beat Goldberg with some major interference, but Rain Man beat everyone.  No flags were thrown on the play.  10 x squats at top.  Nur back down.
  4. Coupon toss up hill.  20 x squats at top.  Mosey back down.
  5. Penny Pincher carry up hill (left and right hand) x 1.  20 x squats at top.  Mosey back down.

Thang 2

Mosey with coupons to back of Lisle HS by the Lions mural.

Now I have a tire with a rope.  Ho – Ho – Ho

Picked up a tire with a rope on the way back to the Octagon.  Split PAX into two teams.  Half of PAX did coupon farmers walk (both hands), while the rest of PAX pulled the tire to catch those with the coupons.  Switch and repeat.

Mary

LBC ‘s x 50

American Hammers x 35 – I think.  Lost count.

Planks variations until time was called.

Circle of Trust

“Hey, Coach!”

I coach.  I love coaching.  When I’m coaching I’m thinking of nothing else.  Not the deadlines at work.  Not the mortgage.  The outside world melts away.  I was chatting about coaching last Friday with my best friend and the godfather of my youngest son.  He pitched all 4 years while at the Air Force academy, so I value and lean on his knowledge of the game heavily.  I was sharing some concerns with him and he told me that I needed to read “The Matheny Manifesto”.  I’m currently in the book and came across this quote while researching Mike Matheny and his thoughts about youth sports.

“Being a good teammate starts and ends with thinking more about your team than you do about yourself.  Selflessness is the goal – not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.” – Mike Matheny

I instantly loved this quote.  I thought “how is this not completely in line with living third?”.

Undoubtedly, the lessons we teach our players as coaches are not just the ones that are executed between the lines.  This is the biggest responsibility a coach has in my opinion.  We can make a player a stronger person by teaching humility when needed, to always show respect and letting them know that it is okay to let go of their egos for the greater good of the team.  It’s hard to put all your love into the game and your team when you love yourself more.

Go out.  Be a coach.  Live third.  Make an impact.

Said a special prayer for all of those that needed healing, guidance and support.  May God keep those who need safe harbor in his pocket, raise up the spirits and hearts of those who need healing and welcome home with loving arms those individuals that we have lost.  Ended in an Our Father.

Naked Man Moleskin

Wine in a Box is a coupon tossing machine.

Confused PAX by telling them to bring towels, as most thought it was part of the workout.  Forgot about all the Broga lately.  No towels were used until after the workout.  What can I say?  I like a clean car seat.

Flush seemed to know the most about the movie Die Hard.

Goldberg’s fancy App showed a lower number registered today than at Rain Man’s Q yesterday.  Room for improvement.
