Introduction
Shortly after posting at F3 Plainfield’s Ridge location of which YHC was in attendance as well as partnered with him during a Dora Beatdown, Shock sent out a general callout looking for someone to step-up and Q at the F3 Naperville West, Foxboro AO. Having never Q’d downrange before, YHC jumped at the chance. For whatever reason (nerves?) I woke up at like 3am today versus 415am. Despite having done a recon the week prior which was justified to the M by taking my 2.0s to see the park, YHC decided it might not be a bad idea to go a little earlier just in case…. Good decision otherwise the PAX in attendance would’ve been doing one of the THANGs on a very moist football field.
Warm-O-Rama
Warm-O-Rama consisted of SSHs, Down/Ups, Tappy Taps, and Arm Rotations and finished off with an OYO stretch while YHC explained the first Thang as well as demonstrated the movements.
The Thang
THANG1
EMOM- 10 Minutes
Alternate between Burpees/Thrusters
10 Burpees
12 Thrusters
Upon completion (coupons stayed in lot), YHC broke the group into two groups. One group bear crawled up and over little hill while the other group performed SSHs. YHC let the next group know when to begin bear crawls while first group commenced SSHs. Repeated this again but replaced Bear Crawl with Crawl Bears. Upon completion, the PAX moseyed over an area near the football field (west side incline area)
THANG2
This THANG was intentionally short in duration basically a stop-gap before moving to the field. Just outside of track on small incline (west side of track) PAX spread out on incline and performed 10 Irkins in cadence, then turned 180 and in cadence performed 10 derkins then turned another 180, performed hi/lo planks in cadence, made a final turn 180, and finished off with hi/lo planks in cadence. YHC led the PAX to the field area (less moist) directly west of the kid’s playground area for the final THANG
THANG3
Initially the plan was to perform THANG3 on the football field, but after YHC setup the cones/lights on the sloppy football field a decision was made to (1) not tear up the field and (2) not get a bunch of PAX more miserable then necessary by having them get all wet especially when the feels like temp was 21 degrees. Is that being soft…maybe, but YHC has been there, done that and today YHC wasn’t feeling it. So the cones/lights were picked up and repositioned in a different area that wasn’t as sloppy or moist as the football field!
THANG 3 involved having all PAX hold high plank at one end and YHC would call out movement, reps and the specific cone (1 of 3 cones at varying distances) the PAX would run to the specific cone and perform the movement OYO. On Q command “Move” PAX Run to light, perform movement/reps per Q guidance and return to starting position and assume high plank until 6 is in. Rinse/Repeat with YHC calling out various movements/reps and a specific cone (Cone1 = short, Cone2 = mid, Cone3 = long). Some of the movements included SSH, Hand Release Merkins, Air Squats, Mountain Climbers, Bobbie Hurleys, and Grady Corns
At around 0554 the PAX were led back to the flags to perform some core work to close out the session.
MARY consisted of the following movements in cadence: Gas Pumpers, J-Lo’s, and Flutter Kicks
Circle of Trust
Thanked the PAX for showing up and also congratulated on the awesome effort today! We are stronger together. Announcements were read by our SIX for today, Shock! Great job!
For YHC COT, I reached back and pulled out an old COT message and shared with the PAX in attendance.
Thought provoking question.
If I knew I couldn’t fail, I would……let me say that one more time, If I knew I couldn’t fail, I would…. Think about that for a second…. how would you finish that statement?
Often times we allow a little three letter word in that statement to discourage us. We say stuff like I’d do this, but. That’s a great idea, but. I would stop doing this, but I’d start doing that, but. I’d spend more time with my wife/kids, but. I’d go on vacation but, I’d start a new career, but. I’d go workout, but, I’d go on a diet, but I’d go to church, but. That three little word, BUT.
I know that I certainly give that word too much power at times in my own life. How about you?
You know the saying the only thing that matters in a sentence is what comes after the but,
My challenge for all of us is to have courage and strength to get off our buts and go do whatever it is we would like to do or should be doing but instead we choose not to…Aye!
*TAPS (Thoughts and Prayers)
We do not prescribe to any particular religion, but we are faith based meaning we have a belief in something bigger than oneself. Ended with a prayer!
Naked Man Moleskin
We had a FNG which is always exciting. Ironically, when YHC introduced himself before the beatdown, it was immediately apparent I knew this FNG. There’s been a few CrossFit competitions (many moons ago) where our paths have crossed not to mention we have a few common friends! You will get to know Jason in short order but know that what we (F3) do is right in his wheelhouse (he lives 3 minutes from Foxboro) and it’s a safe assumption he will be out as much as possible. Noteworthy: It was a challenge to name Jason as he didn’t give us much to go on nor did the PAX in attendance 🙂 YHC has a list of names and apparently the number Jason picked and the corresponding name on the list “LankyBox” (nobody knows this You Tuber?) wasn’t for him. In the end Jason got a name that suits him well.
Big shout out to Shock who is just getting his feet wet (likely got a little moist today) being the Six. You did a great job, you knew the PAX count, you kept us safe, and you kept ensure we stayed on time. Your future looks bright as a leader within the Naperville West region. Lastly, it was an honor to be able to lead this group of MEN that showed up in the GLOOM today. Several of the PAX, YHC had never met before today and for that I’m thankful. Looking forward to our paths crossing again! Keep accelerating MEN!
