Introduction
Sure you’re going to be up late tonight, but I am guessing a lot of you have had your plans change. What better way to start the year than a TRACK CRAWL!!! You’ve gone from bar to bar before to experience the sights and sounds, how about you join me tomorrow as we run some miles and get to 3 tracks near the AO? Maybe we’ll do a lap on each track, maybe we’ll just say we were there. It’s not a speed workout, but it’s a chance to kick the year off right! This should be 5 to 6 miles, but there will be a jettison point if you want less. Start getting after those resolutions now and join me tomorrow!!!

The Thang
We ran since it was a run club. Snow was in the forecast for later in the day and luckily we had great conditions – mildly cold, but the paths, streets, and sidewalks were dry. We took off first and hit the Benet track first. Most people did a loop around the track. From there, we headed over to Benedictine. This track was locked up and I didn’t have “hopping fences” on the list since Chain Link wasn’t there. Also thought that trespassing on a track is a lame thing to have happen on the first day of the year. From Benedictine we headed back towards Benet and headed up by Jewel. Some Pax went back to the AO and did their own thang there. 6 of us continued on to the Lisle track which had a LONG hill to get there. We ran a lap at that track and then headed back to the flags. The watch said 7:27 at arrival, we did a little OYO stretch and called it a day.
Circle of Trust
I recently saw a commercial for a virtual game in the metaverse. While it was cool, it impacted the main characters relationships with their real life friends and even kept 2 apartment neighbors from realizing they knew each other in real life. They were best friends in the game and had no relationship in real life.
YHC said that there was NO WAY he would be out running at 6:30 AM on Jan 1 if it wasn’t for the real HIMs that came out to push me and I challenged everyone to try to make human connections over the next few months – human connection is so needed especially as it is cold now and people will get stuck in their houses. With covid raging, it’s even harder to have that genuine contact. We are SO fortunate and we need to be a smiling face and helping hand for those in our communities.

HUGE thank you for the 10 HIMs that came to join me on a cold morning after most were missing out on some sleep from NYE. I had posted earlier in the week at the Black Diamond Run Club and it was great that Shells N Cheese came out to the Iron Lion. He really pushed the pace. With the group size at 11, it was also great that we could organically split into a couple of groups instead of trying to keep everyone together. Larger groups for run clubs are really great and I will continue to push for this.
Black Diamond Run club people, get on out to the Lion. There is PLENTY of space and some PAX that would love to have that extra challenge that you bring – especially since some can’t make it for an hour run during the week.
I had no idea what to expect when I took this Q spot right before I had to write the pre-blast. I was thinking at one point it might just be me and Sam Walton (great site Q for run clubs BTW), but there was a steady stream of HCs throughout the day. It made for a great group.
I loved that there were some people that came out knowing they wouldn’t be the fastest, but they were out there doing the work. There is no better way to get better than just putting in the miles, rain/shine/hot cold. There was speed, a pace for all, and mumblechatter. Really not sure what else you’d want on a New Year’s Day. LFG!
