Introduction

The mumble chatter was strong the night before with comments like:  I am not sure, I am not a runner, I am not good at this, don’t know if I am ready for run club but at the end of the day the PAX made the wise choice to show up b/c you know….”It’s All in the State of Mind”.  As usual Sheldon was early setting up his coffee shop (sadly with no Beatbox this gloom) as the PAX arrived.  A quick warm a rama took place & the men were off the hill.

The beatdown was simple run over the hill .5km to the other path do some merkins, run back, then rinse & repeat.  The men scurried off in a hurry with a few groups separating.  John Denver set the pace as the PAX chased & Boston Butt sprinted the hills.  Jimmy Neutron & Hairgel glided through the fog like they were filming an F3 commercial with the sunrise in the background.

Start at the base of the hill. Run over the hill & across the field to the other side of the park until you reach the path.  When you hit the path do 5 merkins. Run back through the field & over the hill until you reach the starting point path then drop & do 10 merkins.  Rinse & repeat increasing merkins by 5 every time you hit the path.

It’s All In the State of Mind

If you think you are beaten, you are,

If you think that you dare not, you don’t,

If you’d like to win, but don’t you think you can,

It’s almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost,

For out in the world you’ll find

Success begins with a fellow’s will

It’s all in the state of mind.

Think big, and your deeds will grow;

Think small, and you’ll fall behind;

Think that you can, and you will

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are out-classed, you are;

You’ve got to think high to rise;

You’ve got to be sure of yourself

before You ever can win a prize,

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster man;

But soon or later the man who wins

Is the man who thinks he can.

Like many of you maybe right now I hated running before I got into it.  I started with, “I will do this b/c I want to get in better shape but not in a million years will I run a half marathon.”  Then I did a 5k & thought HMM maybe a half marathon but a lot of work to do.  Then I did a half marathon but thought I will certainly never do a marathon. Then during Lincoln Games by accident I ran 18 miles.  Marathon was never in my realm of thinking when I started running & now I have ambitions.  Don’t sell yourself short on what you can accomplish.  Today guys like Jimmy Neutron & Sheldon who say they are not runners completed about 3 km.  The mind is a powerful tool & with the right attitude I truly believe we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.  Set a goal for yourself & go get it!

Dear lord, thank you for this opportunity to wake up early in the gloom & experience your greatness.  We are humbled for the opportunity you give us every day to be in your glory & serve you as leaders in our communities.  Watch over those in our spoken prayers as well as those that are in our hearts that are not as fortunate as many of us & give them healing & strength in their struggles.  In your name we pray.  Amen!
