Introduction

Pre Blast:  Dark Tower Bootcamp 1/27/23 5:15am  Noonan Tribute 1 of 2

January 27th and January 31st are important dates for those that knew Noonan.  Tomorrow he would have celebrated his 53rd birthday.  Bring your rucks and your coupons as we do some Noonan thangs.  I read through several backblasts of tributes over the past 3 years.  I hope to do them justice.  HC in the thread.

The Scene:  Arrived with time to spare.  A few late HCs the night before that I saw the next morning.  Overplanned as I didn’t want to waste time.  Soon it was 5:15 and away we go!

Welcome & Disclaimer

F3 has 5 core principles:  1. Free 2. Open to ALL men 3. Peer led in a rotating fashion 4. Held outdoors rain or shine, heat or cold 5. Ends in a Circle of Trust

I am not a professional.  You are here of your own free will.  I have no knowledge of any injuries or fitness considerations. It is your responsibility to be safe and modify exercises as needed.

In cadence (IC) is the rhythm in between each rep or the body movement between each rep.

Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.  Our credo is to leave no man behind and leave no man where you found him.

Warm-O-Rama

Warm up from Head to Toe

Neck Rotation – IC (4 count) x 5 each way

Arm Circles – IC (4 count) x 10 FW, 10 BW

Trunk Rotation – IC (4 count) x 5 each way

Finkle Swings – IC (4 count) x 10 each leg

The Thang

THANG 1 – COUPON WORK – 4 rounds

Curls x 25

Swings x 25

Overhead Press x 25

Run to the end of the parking lot and back.  Short route.

THANG 2 – RUCK

Ruck to Noonan’s Tower (Indigo Parking Garage).  Take the stairs to the top.

Dominoes – keep rucks on – Line up 1 PAX per parking space, entire PAX side planks with left hand high, starting at one end, first PAX rotates to regular plank position for one Merkin, first PAX then holds regular plank and next PAX rotates down for Merkin, and so on down the line. Once the entire PAX is in regular plank position, the entire PAX reverses and starts again with right hand high.

Ruck Back

Took a quick detour to the amphitheater for one raccoon walk or bear crawl from one end to the other.

Continued rucking back.  Pushed the PAX to move with purpose.  Warned them that we would go past 6am if need be as Mary was very important.

Mary

Noonan loved his Roxanne:

Done while listening to the song Roxanne by the Police. While staying in the plank position for the entire song, a Merkin is done at every “Roxanne” and a Plank Jack at every ‘red light’ sung.

Noonan’s last Q was his 50th birthday bash.  It was a Monday and I was site Q at Iron Lion at the time.  Because Noonan was joining the Respect club, this was a big deal for all of us.  We had a mini-convergence and moved Iron Lion to Dark Tower that morning.  34 strong.  I had forgotten that until I found Noonan’s backblast on our website.  I tried to incorporate some of that last Q into today with the music and the workout.  4 days later, this backblast is our last collective memory.

On Feb 1st, we had a memorial bootcamp for Noonan.  Rusty read the following poem at the beginning of the workout:

Death Is Nothing At All

By Henry Scott-Holland

Death is nothing at all.

It does not count.

I have only slipped away into the next room.

Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.

I am I, you are you,

And the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.

Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.

Put no difference into your tone.

Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.

Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.

Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.

Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.

It is the same as it ever was.

There is absolute and unbroken continuity.

What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

I am but waiting for you, for an interval,

Somewhere very near,

Just around the corner.

All is well.

Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.

One brief moment and all will be as it was before.

How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Peace,

Cousin Eddie
