Introduction

Another cool morning but I think we are all used to single digits or colder by now.  No wind, the previous day’s sun took care of most of the ice on the pavement and sidewalks so very little limitations.  All systems go!

Real feel of 6F

I have to admit I almost pulled an audible for Thang 1 as later in the prior evening I noticed we were approaching 20 PAX and I couldn’t remember if the patio by NCHS football field would be large enough so I was up a little earlier than planned to walk the area again and decided we were good to go.

PAX in attendance (21):  Brooks, Doback, Bjorn, Marla Hooch, Hacksaw (R), Search Party, Radio Flyer (R), Twinning (R), Dingo (Rx2), Sarah Palin, Brownout (FNG), Leuben, Shandy, Crash, Flush, Gamecock, Townie, Harbaugh, Dabo, Augustus Gloop (Site Q), Twilight (R/Q)

Warm-O-Rama

Had a new guy in our presence so we made sure to mention The Disclaimer and stated the five core principles.

Since we had just over 20 PAX we counted off and had evens and odds take turns in cadence counting the different warm up exercises to try and keep the noise down for one of the nearby residential areas.  Probably would have been a good idea to mention that BEFORE the count-off so guys would remember their #’s.  Live and learn, always!

  • SSH 25x (4ct)
  • Arm Circles  10x Forward/10x Backwards (4ct)
  • Copperhead Squats 10x (4ct)
  • Abe Vigodas 10x (4ct)

We then hit the road south for about an 1/8th of a mile towards Thang 1.

Names of those in need of prayers were mentioned and in our thoughts.

I told about a recent story of a coworker’s son who is struggling to find his way.  Youngest of four kids.  The older three are doing well in college and the oldest is doing well post college.  His son had to come home after his first semester at a college in Utah.  I could tell my coworker was really worried about him and that he and his wife were trying to be there for him over the last several months.  However, the son wanted to go back to Utah and get a job this spring and work his way back into the college program.  Sounds great but my coworker said there was a bit more to unpack so, it’s complicated.  Anyway, he did mention that he was very much into fitness and outdoor rock climbing and that he appreciated a physical challenge.  Of course I mentioned F3 (Salt Lake AO’s were about 20 mins away).  I reached out to Dark Helmet, knowing he was from the Provo area and he immediately offered to speak to the family and set him up with a mentor from F3 Salt Lake City.  I spoke with my coworker, who was very appreciative, and they had a family discussion.  Unfortunately, the son was heading back to Utah in less than a week so I have not heard if or how the conversation went.  It probably didn’t help that I threw complete strangers at them who were part of a secretive organization that dresses their members all in black.  Anyway, sometimes things like this work out and sometimes they don’t.  But the fact that I knew someone from the Provo area because of F3 and that Dark Helmet was willing to work with the family to help a young man in need…that’s what we are about, right?  Sometimes we reach out to each other to borrow a ladder or help move furniture.  But we are also capable of helping others during a transformative time in their lives.

It’s more than a workout.

Naked Man Moleskin

It was a great mix this morning.  Some newer PAX mixed in with some old hands.  Younger PAX and some Respect and Respect x2 PAX.  An FNG and at least one Kotter who is getting back into the swing of things (hell yeah!).  We had tunes and mumblechatter.  Sometimes it’s hard to get out of bed but DO NOT give in to the fartsack.  I have yet to finish a workout and regret it.
