Introduction

Are you a non-runner but want to go faster? Are you amazed when my walk is faster then your run? By popular demand YHC is going to Q an Athletic Walk Clinic for 4/28’s Run Club at the Citadel.

Athletic Walking is a great alternative to running and it is a great tool to have when you are on a long run and need to keep moving when you run out of gas. In other words it’s a great active recovery when you still need to be moving. Are athletic walkers slow…HELL NO…”The men’s world record for the 20 km race walk (12.43 miles) is held by Yusuke Suzuki, who walked 1:16:36 at the Asian Race Walking Championships in his home town of Nomi, Japan.” That is just above 6 minutes per mile if you do the math. I can’t make you that fast in one training but I can give you the tools to make you successful. We will be staying in the parking lot but I’m going to work you hard.

I will do a proper Warm-O-Rama and a good streach for Mary.

Bring your shoes, your coupons, and energy.

Even though I will focus on Athletic Walking there will be a little bit of running.

Feel free to join me at 4:45 for an EC run.

The Thang

Thang 1

Experiment long strides vs short strides across parking lot spaces with each lap getting longer. Total two laps. the point is to find out that shorter strides are more efficient than longer strides.

Thang 2

Power Walk four laps across parking lot spaces with each lap increasing in distance each time. focus on speed and arm movement.

Thang 3

.5 mile Indian Walk. That came out to two loops around parking lot so everyone got to lead line twice. Focusing on footwork and arm movement.

Thang 4

Power walk race across parking lot.

Thang 5

4:1 run walk interval for 10 minutes AYO.

Circle of Trust

Stay Puft talked about watching his 8 month old son learn how to crawl walk. Each day with small incremental improvements. Even though we are exercising we are slowly improving and improvement does not happen overnight only with practice and persistence.

Naked Man Moleskin

Everyone had a laugh when Stay Puft mentioned baby exercise videos on You Tube.
