Introduction

It was a crisp, cool morning in the low 60’s with plenty of moisture on the grass.  Soft conditions…there would not be much roll on our drives today.  Like any prepared golfer, I pulled into the lot early around 4:45am and there was already one car there.  That car had the music cranking, which reminded me of my pre-game golf tournament ritual back in college.  No, the music didn’t end up helping my game in the end…but it’s what I did.  The PAX in this car must be gearing up for the GOLFER BEATDOWN!  Or, maybe it was just a couple of young kids having a “social session” in their parked car after a late night of who-knows-what…I’ll never know because I took off on foot to get things set up in the field and never saw who came out of that car.

Good thing Upchuck rolled up in his golf cart (appropriately) for today’s workout–he was able to drive me around the AO to set up the final few cones.  I returned to the flags to find more than 20 HIM’s ready to go.  Surprisingly Penalty Box showed up despite the words “no coupons,” “run” and “crawl” in the pre-blast.  At 5:15am we started the disclaimer as Joe Dirt cruised in–waaaaay ahead of schedule (for him).  This was going to be a special day.  In the end, 26 of us were ready to tee off…and all of us forgot about Pi and Sparkler’s penalty for leaving flags at their last AO…

Thing 1: Pearls on a String
Counted off by 4’s to split into 4 groups of 7, 7, 6 and 6.  Indian run roughly 1/4 mile, stop for 18 merkins, 18 big boys and 18 squats.
Repeat two more times (three total stops/sets of exercises, and roughly 3/4 miles) and end at base of hill.

Thing 2: Golfer Workout Front/Back of Hill
Three cones placed roughly 15 yards apart, ascending up the hill (first cone is 15 yards from the bottom, second cone is 30 yards from the bottom, third cone 45 yards from the bottom). The backside of the hill has three cones set every 15 yards, descending from top to bottom.

Start at the bottom/front of the hill.

Bear crawl to first cone. 18 merkins (incline), 18 big boys (decline), mosey back to bottom, 5 burpees at bottom.

Bear crawl to second cone. 18 merkins, 18 BB, mosey back to bottom, 5 burpees.

Bear crawl to third cone. 18 merkins, 18 BB, mosey back to bottom, 5 burpees.

Front side complete—run to top and prepare for the backside where everything is backwards.

Crawl Bear down to first cone. 18 merkins (decline), 18 BB (incline), Bernie Sanders back to top, 5 reverse burpees.

Crawl Bear down to second cone. 18 merkins (decline), 18 BB (incline), Bernie Sanders back to top, 5 reverse burpees.

Crawl Bear down to third cone. 18 merkins (decline), 18 BB (incline), Bernie Sanders back to top, 5 reverse burpees.

A few finished in time to return to pick up the six, but most slowed down when they knew time was getting close–probably thinking we wouldn’t make them Bernie Sanders all the way up the hill to meet us at the top.  So, of course, we patiently waited for them.

Circle of Trust

I believe it is thoughtful to be thankful, so I asked each PAX to share something they were thankful about this morning.  Strangely, nobody said they were thankful for today’s Golfer Workout.  I didn’t take it personally.

Naked Man Moleskin

Not too much mumble chatter today, although I couldn’t really hear anything other than Tourniquet screaming, “What does any of this have to do with golf?!?” several times throughout the morning.  To his credit, he had a point.  I’ve played a lot of golf and this was the first time I had ever done reverse burpees (kind of fun) or uphill Big Boys (not so much fun).
