Introduction
3 years ago our community experienced a senseless tragedy and loss of life at the Henry Pratt manufacturing plant.
Join me for a tribute workout honoring the 5 souls we lost, as well as the 5 first responders who were shot responding to the active shooter that day. YHC was directly involved in the law enforcement operation, saw this event unfold firsthand and how it affected the lives of many.
We will start at the La Luz AO. We will do a 1.5 mile mosey to the building site, with PT stops on the way there and back. Please wear a weighted vest if you have one, to honor the first responders. If you don’t own one, come anyway. If you have an extra vest or ruck please bring it for those who don’t own one.
Please be warmed up prior to 0500 as we will be on the move.
Coffee from Jake’s Bagels will be provided following the workout.
There may be some volume in this thread. So, please keep mumblechatter to a minimum.
If you were at the plant or have a relative who was directly affected, please feel free to DM me and share your story. It’s still fresh in my mind many nights. I respect that it may still be fresh in your mind as well.
TIA for helping honor and remember this day.

Warm-O-Rama
Discussion about the Tribute workout and the what went into the Law Enforcement effort at the Henry Pratt Plant Active Shooter response.
-50 SSH IC (representing 5 Entry teams)
The Thang
PAX split into 5 teams to represent the 2 SRT and 3 RTF teams that entered the Henry Pratt Plant that fateful day on 02/15/2019.
- 5 teams. There were 5 entry teams. So this is significant. Split the teams up by your numbers. Each team has a team lead responsible for keeping his team together on the run and bringing in the 6. No man left behind.
- Run 1.5 miles (solid mosey) at half way mark teams stop and do 15 (5 entry teams, 5 civilians murdered, 5 police officers shot) burpees, air squats, merkins. Repeat at end of 1.5 miles.
- 1.5 mile mark wait on 6 and take a knee for moment of silence for the fallen. Then repeat 15s workout.
- Run back the 1.5. Half way mark do the cardio workout of 15s again.
- At the .25-.20 mark have your team do rescue carry’s back to the flags. This will depend on even and odds for your teams and will be your call on whether it’s a fireman carry, 3 man carry or 5 man carry.
- If a team falls out of the team environment they are penalized at the flags with 15 burpees. We are only as strong as our weakest teammates and we won’t get out alive if we don’t work as a team.
Warm-a-Rama-
Team 3 smoked everyone to the flags. They were penalized. 15 burpees. A few burpees into the exercise, I asked the rest of the PAX to join…because we are team. All PAX joined team 3 in their penalty burpees.
Circle of Trust
The quote of the day was Connor McGregor’s: “I stay ready so I don’t have to get ready”.
I suggested this saying become a staple in the PAX lives. Not just for athletics related to F3. But in life. Active Shooters are so common now. One could’ve happened later today while any of us were getting gas at the local gas station and went inside to get a coffee.
I challenged the PAX to think what they would do. Would they be ready to act? Would they stop the threat? Would they be the reason that only 1 or 2 people died instead of several people?
At any given time we may be presented with this challenge where we may need to address a threat, be a human shield for others or save lives. We need to stay ready so we don’t have to get ready.
We, as F3 men, are already in good physical shape to be able to engage someone if need be.
Simply put, be ready so you don’t need to get ready.
We took a moment of silence for those murdered and those affected by the tragedy on February 15, 2019. Then YHC said a brief prayer for those affected by the tragedy.
Naked Man Moleskin
Teamwork. Team 3 beat everyone to the flags by a good margin. The rest of the teams, arrived to the flags together, four teams as one unit.
Typically being done first like this is celebrated in F3. But on a day like today it was penalized. The direction at the beginning of the workout was given that the group stay together. During a law enforcement operation, no matter how small or big the team, you have to stay together. If gaps seep into the group between operators, that is when people get hurt or worse, die.
Team 3 didn’t listen to direction and wanted to finish strong. They were penalized for it. I related team 3 to RTF 6 from 02/15/2019, who didn’t listen to direction to “sit tight” and decided to take matters into their own hands and almost caused a second tragedy.
Team 3 did 15 burpees for penalty. The rest of the F3 PAX joined them in the penalty because we are #Aurorastrong and #F3Naperville. We walk that line together.
No hard feelings team 3.
I was really happy to see the turnout and teamwork this morning. Some teams did better than others. Part of the idea was picking the last person in each “tactical stack” as the Team Leader” (TL) because that is often the last guy in F3 that wants to do it, but on a tactical team that is typically the TL (depending on the size of the team). It was fun for me to see the leadership. Some teams ran in formation the entire way. Some spread out, some took off running, some groups stayed together as a tight unit the entire run. The dynamic of this part of the exercise was interesting to see for sure.
I greatly appreciate the PAX and the men of La Luz allowing me to lead them on such a historic and tragic day. I am truly humbled and honored to be able to lead such a large group of PAX during such an important event. Thank you.
I’d like to take a moment to thank Snoop-a-Loop and Wedding Planner for assisting with the logistics of today’s events. I couldn’t have done it without you two. I’d also like to thank Road Trip. On the flight back from Miami we bounced ideas off each other on what would work for such an event. I appreciate you 3 and your efforts.
Aurora Strong!
