Introduction

Weighed Down
Cuz I’ve been feeling a little cloudy lately and it’s time to shake it off.
Join me for an old-school meditation in the gloom. We’ll be under weight and on the move the entire time. Weight vests strongly encouraged.
YHC got out in the gloom early on this beautiful morning. It was crisp, clear, quiet, and an even 6 degrees outside. I had some prep to do so I headed over to the pavilion around 4:30 to move some picnic tables. I wanted the party to look nice for all my guests… ; )

Warm-O-Rama

Welcome. We are F3, and our mission is to plant, grow, & serve small work out groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership. In case it isn’t obvious, WE are that male community leadership.

YHC struggled to articulate the 5 Core Principles this morning. I blame it on the cold weather and the 2 weeks of vacation I’m coming off of…nonetheless, we finally figured it out.

Disclaimer was given, we counted off, and we established partners. Each of us was gonna need a partner to support and encourage us through the work out.

 

Since we were all wearing weight vests, it wasn’t about when we failed. We were all going to fail at some point during this workout (many of us can barely do pull-ups, even without the added weight…). It’s not about when we fail; rather, today was about how we kept going after we reached failure.

Then we moseyed over to my first favorite thinking spot around Naperville: the Pavilion by the “big park,” as I call it.

The Thang

Abyss merkins on picnic tables. If you’re not familiar with the abyss merkin go check it out in the Exicon.

Then dips, and then more abyss merkins.

When we had enough of the merkins, YHC wanted to try out a new exercise: pickle grinder.

It turns out to be aptly named…

One PAX hangs over the edge of the table and does lower back extensions while 2nd PAX holds feet down. Switcheroo and we tried this out 2 x each. That was just about enough grinding for one day.

Anyone who knows me knows this is my favorite spot in all of Naperville. I decided 2022 is the Year of the Pull-Up…lucky you guys!

Line up with 6 feet between PAX. Move in cadence, and in sync, lunging & twisting. We got in 15 steps.

YHC encouraged PAX to move with as much synchronicity as possible. I wish I could have seen how well we did.

Circle of Trust

Today we unnecessarily weighed ourselves down while working out. It’s funny, isn’t it, how we do that sometimes?

I mean, even when we’re not working out. Think about it: How often do we unnecessarily weigh ourselves down with silly rules, unreasonable expectations, excessive desires, etc…

I am so guilty of this.

Lately I’ve been weighed down by my own expectations, wants, rules, etc… It is negatively affecting me and my relationships. Today’s work out was all about shedding that weight, which we finally did after 45 minutes of work.

My hope & prayer in 2022 is that I might be able to SIMPLIFY. Simplify my needs, my wants, my _________. Simplify is my word for the year. I’ll bet it will end up affecting other areas in my life, but this is where I’m going to start, by shedding the unnecessary weight of trivial things and freeing myself up to be a better man. Better for me; better for my wife; better for my family; & better for you men.
