Introduction

@Bozo and @Snorkle participated in and completed the 50 mile march.  Congratulations men, that is truly impressive!

@Chazz and @Dorn showed up early at The Bear to see us off, which was very cool and much appreciated.

@Goldberg, @Riunite and Nacho Libre joined me in an attempt to complete the 50 mile Teddy’s March.

Warm-O-Rama

We departed from The Bear at 6:00 AM

The Thang

@Goldberg’s knee started to give way, he toughed it out for several miles and finally went home at mile 17.  @Riunite had to leave after mile 23 to get his son to indoor baseball practice (Perfect Swing is the bane of all parents hoping for an occasional day off due to weather).  @Riunite could have made it the entire 50 miles with gas in the tank.  While @Riunite still looked to be fresh as a daisy when he departed, Nacho Libre and I looked like a couple of black-eyed Susans as we trudged on from Two Wolves to Black Panther where we threw in the towel after 30 miles.

Circle of Trust

It was somewhere around mile 15 that my feet and ankles started to hurt and they hurt every step for the rest of the march.

That said- I had a great time.

I really enjoyed moseying along and chatting with the guys.  I may have a plan to get the best of both worlds- a painless mosey- simply go for shorter walks.

The Ruckers seem to get together on Sundays.  That’s tempting; however, something Italians always seem to get right is, “Sundays are for family.”  That sentiment is strictly what works for me- I am definitely not knocking the Sunday Rucking Crew.

One Saturday a month, I plan to go on a 2 hour-ish walk covering 7 miles (give or take).   There are tons of tracks that can be used in the area… Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, Greene Valley Forest Preserve, Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, etc, etc…

I hope to get as many HIMs as possible to join me, all are welcome.  This plan is foolproof because if no one is able to join me, a two hour solo walk is still a pretty good way to spend a morning.

Naked Man Moleskin

I recommend setting an ambitious goal and going for it.  While I fell short of accomplishing my goal of walking 50 miles, I had a great time trying to achieve it.

I understand some people trying to achieve such goals on their own, but I prefer a crowd, there’s something to be said for the shared experience.  @Riunite, @Goldberg, Nacho Libre and I spent several hours together moving along and no one was ever at a loss.  The importance of great company can not be overestimated!

My ankles were as swollen as they have ever been after a bad sprain, and Nacho Libre’s feet were shredded from blisters.  We each felt real pain, yet as we shuffled along for the final two miles of the journey, we were able to enjoy and laugh at the ridiculous situation we were in until we reached Black Panther.

While I may not retry this challenge, I look forward to continue to pursue and join HIMs in new challenges to come.

Thanks again to @Bozo and @Snorkle for finishing the 50 mile Teddy’s March and proving that no challenge is impossible for the men of F3.
