Introduction
YHC had started putting together some ideas for a beatdown a year ago for my 40th birthday. There would be a lot of exercises with 40 reps each. Of course, things went sideways with the pandemic, so that was a workout that never happened. 41 didn’t have the same ring to it, so instead, the plan was to move around the AO and torch some calories. Then came the rain with a thread of lightning, so the plan changed again. If YHC learned anything in the last last year, it is the ability to deal with change and roll with the punches.
Pulled into the parking lot a few minutes early, and dropped of a speaker and coupon in the pavilion, pax started making their way under the shelter as well.
5:15 came, core principles and disclaimer was recited, and then we got started.
Warm-O-Rama
So, with the rain picking up a bit, and the radar showing lightning was on the way (although it never actually came) we stayed under the pavilion for WoR and we did
40 SSH in cadence
10 Tappy Taps in cadence
20 Imperial Walkers in cadence
10 Good Mornings in cadence
40 High Knees in cadence
10 Abe Vigotas in cadence
The Thang
warmup completed, got some music going and got to it
Thang 1:
alternating burpees, bulgarian squats, increasing reps – 5-10-15 with 20 SSH (straight count) between each exercise, so do 5 burpees, 20 SSH, 5 bulgarian squats (each leg), 20 SSH, 10 burpees, 20 SSH and so on until all are completed. Hold squat for the 6.
Thang 2:
Alternating 1 leg dips (each leg)/Big Boys with 20 Imperial Walkers in between (each leg = 1/2). Increase reps of dips and big boys – 5-10-15. Hold Squat for the 6.
Thang 3:
Same concept as Thang 1 and 2, but reps are 20-30-40, exercises are curls and chest press. Rain stopped so we ran a lap in the lot between exercises.
Mary:
10 LBCs in Cadence
10 Freddy Mercurys in Cadence
10 super slow Freddy Mercurys in Cadence
20 Heel Touches in Cadence
20 Manatees in Cadence
Hamstring stretch
Runners Lunge stretch
Circle of Trust
Seems like birthdays are an opportunity to reflect back on the past year and see what has been accomplished. The last year was certainly unique. There have been a lot of struggles along the way, traditions have been interrupted – some are things that have been done for my entire life, like Christmas get togethers with extended family. Work has been extremely difficult and stressful, and work/life balance has been blurred by working from home more than before. Relationships have been tested, in part because of the quarantine. Kids have been dealt an ever changing school schedule with remote, to hybrid, to in person. My M, a teacher, has been on the other side of that constant change, and has been stressed as well.
In the moment, it seems overwhelming, and frustrating. It can make me question what the plan is, or if there is one at all. That is where looking back and having the benefit of hindsight pays off.
What I can see is through the stress we have had, stronger relationships have been forged and communication has gotten better between members of the family. Kids have become more resilient, and adept at dealing with change. While work has been stressful, I was rewarded for my efforts with a promotion, which obviously helps on the financial side, but it also is nice to have the recognition of hard work paying off.
Again, the benefit of hindsight shows there truly is a plan for us, and while we cannot see it sometimes in the thick of things, it’s important to have faith we are in our Makers hands.
Prayers thanking God for our health and the ability to get out in the gloom, for the fellowship and platform F3 provides.
Special prayers for all the graduates this year.

Not sure what started the Beavis and Butthead mumblechatter, but that brought back some memories… Unfortunately, half of the guys in F3 probably haven’t had the pleasure of watching MTV when there was “M” on it….
