Introduction

I had three FNG’s coming this morning, and I wanted to give them a proper introduction to F3.  Basically, I wanted them to be sore enough where they would be walking funny by mid-afternoon, but I still wanted them to be motivated to return.  Burpees?  Absolutely.  Bear crawling?  Yep.  Wait a minute…what if we combined them and did Burpee Bears?!?  Perfect.  And let’s throw in a couple Indian runs for Corningstone, who was coming downrange from Naperville–he hates them, but he fartsacked my first Q at DT, so this would be his punishment.

Nice and cool in the morning, in the low to mid 50’s.  On my way to the Colosseum I stopped at the side road in the NE corner of the park to plant some cones in the field, and the setup was complete.  Toby was in the lot when I arrived, and Happy Camper was setting up coffee.  These guys were ready to rock.  All the FNG’s arrived wondering why everybody was wearing spelunking gear on their head.  I’m pretty sure they were jealous because we looked cool with our headlamps on.  All PAX arrived by 5:10am…chit-chatted for 5 minutes and we were ready to go.

Warm-O-Rama

Motivators (7) – This was the first exercise Tourniquet put me through when I was an FNG…have to continue that tradition with these three guys.

The Thang

Thang 1: Pearls on a String

Mosey 0.2 miles to the SE corner of the Colosseum.  Stop for merkins (9), Bobby Hurley’s (9) and Grady Corns (9).  Then Indian run 0.3 miles to the NE corner of the Colosseum.  Round two of merkins (18), Bobby Hurley’s (18) and Grady Corns (18).

Thang 2: Burpee Bear 11’s

Moved into the field where cones were set up 45 yards apart.  On one end, perform one (1) Burpee Bear (squat down, thrust legs back, merkin, bear crawl 5 steps, jump up and clap)…run 45 yards and perform ten (10) big boy sit-ups.  Return to start and repeat 2 Burpee Bears, then 9 big boys…followed by 3 and 8, then 4 and 7…etc.

Indian run 0.3 miles back to the SE corner, wait for the six.  Then mosey 0.2 miles back to the flags.

Circle of Trust

I think a CoT should be thoughtful, and I believe it is thoughtful to be thankful…so I like to share what I am thankful for during CoT.  Yesterday I received the news that somebody I knew–even though I knew him well, I would not say we were good friends–committed suicide.  After hearing this news, I was initially overcome with the common human emotional reaction: I wish I could have done more…I wish he had reached out to me…I wish I had noticed he was struggling.  And while all of this is true, the next thought I had is one that affected me in a much stronger way: I was thankful.  Thankful for the people in my life that do not suffer from depression.  Thankful for the people in my life who are genuinely happy and share their happiness.  Thankful that I surround myself with people who naturally raise the spirits of those they are in contact with.

It is definitely important to keep on eye on those who are close to you–always be on the lookout for signs of depression and always be willing to lend an ear or give time to those who need it.  But also take time to thank the people in your life who regularly pick up your spirits and provide a spark of energy.  Let them know you don’t take them for granted.

Naked Man Moleskin

Over-planned again.  Needed about 10 more minutes to complete two more sets of merkins/Bobby Hurley’s/Grady Corns, and I really wanted to finish with bear crawl races.  But we can save that for another day!
