Yesterday afternoon there was a horrible incident in north Naperville.
A man traveled from Michigan to Naperville and murdered his child’s mother and then killed himself. All while their child was in school at Washington Junior High – where Mia & Goldmember and I went to junior high together. I think about those social workers who had to explain what happened to that poor kid and it wrecks me.
As I search for how to process this information I was lead to Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
We live in a very messed up world. It always seems to be falling apart. I want to share with you that I am convicted that too often these days I have been trying to rely on my own understanding and have not been trusting in our creator as he has instructed me to do.
I know I don’t understand what’s going on. But I’m grateful that I don’t have to. I want to encourage all of us to pursue our faith and not get overwhelmed by the evil and trouble in our world. Let’s focus on what we can control, which is pretty much ourselves, and put our trust in God for the rest.
7. Prayer
God, there is none like you. We praise you this morning and marvel at your creation. Thank you for blessing us with these healthy bodies that perform better the harder we work them and for the positive relationships and opportunities to work together for positive impact. We pray that we will serve others where there are needs and seek help when we need it. We pray for Columbus’ stepmom and their family with processing and decision-making; we pray for Goldmember and his 2.0 re: the loss of another friend; we pray for the WJHS student who lost his parents and for all the public safety responders and caregivers involved in that situation. Continue to bless us and favor us Lord and help us to serve others and to trust you and lean not on our own understanding. In your name, Amen.

Lessons
1. It was 7 degrees at post. Lifted my spirit to see 14 HIMs willing to make the sacrifice to be there with me in those conditions. Hooch double dipped with LST @ DT. Very impressive in single digit weather. Great to see Huskie. How about Play Date!?! He keeps posting. He must really like Mom’s Group’s 2.0. Good for him. I’m a fan.
2. It was cold and dark, but the path seemed clear and safe. I don’t think anyone slipped or fell. Hope everyone is OK.
3. Wasn’t sure whether this plan was going to work. I think it went OK. Pleased with the ground we covered, ~2.6 miles. Would like to try it again in warmer, brighter conditions.
4. My counting was rough. Counted out two sets of 3s during motivators and labored to keep up my voice. Might help if I participated in counting more often when non-Q.
5. Not happy about having to miss coffeeteria.
Thanks
1. Mom’s Group for having my 6, checking-in to make sure I was prepared, and keeping an eye on everything – great teammate always
2. Hooch for EHing me, and supporting and encouraging me continuously since I started
3. My guys, Mia Hamm and Goldmember, for joining and for being such an exemplary F3 HIMs. So cool looking out in the gloom and seeing friends I’ve had since we were kids.
4. For everyone who came out; appreciate you all
