Introduction

Serena asked if Muggsy or I would Q this BD workout. So the choice was simple, lead or be led by Muggsy. I choose…life. Anyway, felt like moving some weight around and knew Monday’s numbers could be a little low, seemed like the right time. A few pax heard a rumor it was going to be light on running. Careful what you believe and what you get up for. I loaded up the car with every dumbbell, kettle bell, weight plate, sandbag and any other thing over 50lbs I could find in my house. Parked the car at the Indigo parking garage as a little surprise present for the PAX.

Decided to make a dramatic entrance this morning. Waited until about 4:58 to appear in the parking lot, seemingly out of nowhere, saying its time to circle up. Liked it, had the dramatic effect being sought after I think. Then Nacho called, put him on speaker phone for the PAX, he was at the wrong AO! He made it over to but was about 8 min late. No rep!

AAR  Moment – I ran from my car to the AO without my coupon, knowing we’d be coming back and origially thought I would have a speaker and phone in my hand already. I left the speaker, but did not grab the coupon. This annoyed the PAX when we started and I did not have a coupon to run with. I didn’t see an issue with it when I started, but when we finished I understood their point. Won’t happen again.

Warm-O-Rama

5 CPs, disclaimer

SSHs IC (30), Imperial Walkers IC (15), Mountain Man Poopers (15)

Asked PAX to grab their coupons and to get ready to mosey. The PAX took their time walking over to get their coupons, they were encouraged to move faster. One PAX spilled the beans that he heard there would be no running. He didn’t hear it from me…coupon mosey to the Indigo garage.

This is when there was some mumble chatter about me not having a coupon. I knew what was coming, wasn’t too bothered by it.

The Thang

Thang 1: Merkin March

Passed out sets of 40lb, 35lb, 30lb, 25lb dumbbells, 2 25lb plates, 60lb sandbag, 53lb kettle bell, 35 lb kettle bell, big boy coupon (40lb) and one ruck sack (35lb) for good measure. Everyone gets a toy.

Goal: Carry all weight to the next floor, go back and retrieve 5 coupons left behind, the extra baggage. Left it up to the PAX who would go back and get the coupons at each floor. If a PAX did not go to retrieve the coupons, we did ab exercises (plank elbows to knees, LBCs, etc) until they arrived back with the coupons. Once all baggage (toys) were at the next floor, we performed merkins on our toys. The rep count was reasonable, with a slight pause at the top of each merkin. Then we rolled over, and performed chest presses with our toys, again, a reasonable number of reps.

Repeato till the 5th floor, switching toys at each floor. After the 5th floor, carry all toys down the staircase back to the 1st floor.

You’ll have to ask the PAX whether they preferred the 2 min of ab work with me or going back to get the coupon. I wanted to see the PAX come together and I think that was achieved over the course of 5 floors.

Thang 2:

Partner up, facing your partner perform merkins IC. Grab a toy, up 5 flights of stairs to the top. A little grumbling starting to come from the PAX, and a few really hard breathers ;). Once at the top, still holding toys, performed weighted squats, then back down the stairs. On the first floor, switch toys, reverse squats (think starting in the low squat pose and pausing between each rep). Back up the stairs, a few more squats.

Thang 3: Farmer carry all toys and all 5 coupons down the flights of ramps.  That’s a little more than a 1/2 mile. PAX were encouraged to share, switch and help each other get down as quickly as possible. Highlight, Buttermaker setting his dumbbells on the ledge at the end of each ramp, then walking around the ledge and grabbing them on the other side :). We all made it down, the coupons by far were the hardest to carry, followed by the 53lb kettle bell. Loaded the weights back in the car, grabbed my cinder block after some encouragement from BassMaster, and coupon mosey’d back to the flags.

Mary:

Coupon flutter kicks, to coupon presses, coupon flutter kicks, big boys

Circle of Trust

The theme here was carrying the extra baggage. Who’s gonna carry it, you, someone else or will you do it as a team. There were some runners, so wanted to see how they handled the weight. There were a few non runners, wanted to see if they’d have enough to go back and get the coupon. You never know when there is going to be some extra baggage to deal with, but it has to be dealt with, lighten the load for someone else.

Naked Man Moleskin

Had a good time with this one. Appreciate the AAR, workouts are led by those who participate, the Q is not exempt of this requirement. If you’re going to ask the PAX to do something, its not good enough to just be beside them, you better be under the same weight! Thank you to everyone for putting in the work on a Monday morning holiday!
