Introduction

A month ago Dorn reached out and asked if I’d come Q out at The Bear. Who turns down a personal invitation, plus had been meaning to get out there but the half-hour drive had simply been an obstacle that was too easy to keep in my way to date. Time to change that, thanks Dorn!

As it was my maiden voyage to this AO I drove by to scope it out yesterday. Covered in snow and ice everywhere but parking lots and sidewalks I figured we wouldn’t go exploring off road too much and plans came into motion.

YHC arrived a little early and headed over to the parking lot at the opposite corner of the grounds (~0.5 mile away via the park path) and chalked up plans for Thang 1.

Warm-O-Rama

7 Pax were welcomed to The Bear and YHC disclaimed per usual. Took off for a lil capri lap to get things moving and good thing we didn’t venture too far as Chainlink was comin in hot. Picked him up and things warmed up with 50 SSH’s IC + 25 Mountain Climbers IC + 50 SSH’s IC + 25 Mountain Climbers IC. Time to dance!

The Thang

9 of us moseyed down the park path half a mile to the far parking lot. There we performed The Cooper WOD:

10 Burpees + 10 Squats + 10 Merkins followed by running a lap…down to 9 reps of each and then all the way down to 1.

This smoked all of us a bit. We moseyed the rest of the 1/2 mile loop back to the flags.

The Cooper worked us on a decreasing rep count, back in the main parking lot we worked on our accelerating rep count. Exercise at each end of the lot was Superman Merkins, starting at 1. Bear Crawl across the lot and mosey back. One PAX got up to 10 and then it was time to finish with a strong Mary. Captain Thor never disappoints, we got up to 10:40 right at 0730.

Circle of Trust

F3’s Mission is to Plant, Grow, & Serve small men’s workout groups for the invigoration of community leadership. I presumed that each of us were out there early on a Saturday morning in air temps in the teens for a reason more than just that it was a free workout. Whatever those reasons may be, continue to ta[p into them and continue to seek out opportunities to lead and to answer the call when asked to lead.

F3’s Credo is Leave no Man Behind, Leave no Man Where you Found Him. Keep bringing other men along you on your journey! Haven’t seen a guy in a few weeks? Text him or slack him or call him. Who knows what is going on in their world and they may need to just feel some love and support to lean on.

Naked Man Moleskin

That was an asssssssssssssssss whoopin. By my fitness tracker counts it was all-timer (860 active cals on Apple Watch, 754 on Whoop). A good 100 or so more than the Saturday average. We just didn’t stop moving. And when then the temps are in the teens that’s the way to stay warm so I apologize for nothing haha!

These Bear PAX are studs! It was awesome to meet a handful of them for the first time. No one gave up throughout…there was plenty of mumblechatter throughout…and while both Thangs were technically “OYO” it never seemed like any guy was every really alone putting in the work.

We adjourned and Coffeeteria was on our mind when Houdini threw out a curveball and suggested beers. So frose (half frozen rose ale) and IPA slushies were thrown back in the lot. It was still only about 14 degrees so we quickly made our way to Coffee anyway but it was a fun little dash of flavor, thanks Houdini!

Lastly, Chazz’s first aid kit that is clipped on to his Bluetooth speaker made me do a double-take, what a pro Site-Q move!
