Introduction

There was light green, dark green, yellow, and red on the radar in the gloom this morning…as I ventured off to head East in the dark I made my initial EC run about 50 yards and right there, under the power lights…a large lightning strike in the distanced changed the course of our day…this was a message from God!

And it was what the PAX needed to lead the rest of the day…

Warm-O-Rama

We huddled by the flag in the light rain coming down, made mention of the lightning strike and assigned all PAX in attendance to watch for more lightning. Lightning + thunder would mean a shutdown to shelter.

We started out with some IT band stretches, runners stretches and some Ray Finkle’s in hyper speed…my cadence was quick for the PAX. We took a lap around the parking lot with some high knees and made the decision to stay close as ominous clouds continued to roll in with the darkness.

“Are we the only people crazy enough to be out here”-Sonny Bono

Yes.

And we kept it in check too.

The Thang

Thunder rolled as did we around the parking lot…

Some of us clocked close to 5 miles worth of laps around the parking lot. No rest for the weary on this rainy Tuesday. Mumble chatter was at a high for this Run Club as the close proximity kept us tighter together. The rain picked up a lot toward the end. Bob Ross told us he’s going to run a marathon in New York.

How about that!

A large thunderous boom hit! Lightning struck close in the distance around 5:53am and we moved to the shelter to finish up with Mary.

SSH + Mountain Climbers + WWI Situps + Variation of Planks closed the show. Safely.

Circle of Trust

I shared a bit of a 3 hour documentary about Lewis & Clark I watched over Labor Day weekend and how it related to F3…

Ken Burn’s Lewis & Clark documentary is a great watch if you have not seen it…telling the story of how these two men and their team traveled over 4,000 miles into the unknown to discover more of what become the rest of the West in the United States…

#1 Fitness – To travel 4,000 miles takes fitness. Just like Lewis & Clark had to keep getting up and keep going, so do we in F3. It’s not easy. But we don’t get up for easy.

#2 Fellowship – There was a point in their journey that Lewis & Clark had reached the Pacific Ocean. Traveling all the way from the Mississippi River with their team and by this point, they had to decide where they would stay for the Winter. So…they had a vote. This speaks to the connection these two men had with their team…they respected each other to give everyone a vote. And in 1803 or so, this was monumental. Why? Because it was democratic…and there were mixed races including people who were White, Black, and Native American and of course Sacajawea who was a woman. NOT all these people could vote in 1803 or so…it took decades for social justices to allow for this however Lewis & Clark allowed for it in the moment in the early 1800’s. This is leadership and fellowship among leaders. So much could be the same for the HIM’s of F3.

#3 Faith – To travel so far and overcome such odds takes faith. The fact we end with a CoT and ask for prayers and do so much to give back to our communities speaks to the heart of F3. Lewis & Clark had to have such great faith to carry on for so many years on this journey. In fact, armies in the Spanish territory were out to stop the expedition however they failed because Lewis & Clark were too fast. They were ahead of this attempt to prevent their journey and much of this has to do with faith. Faith allowed them to carry on. Much like it allows the men of F3 to carry it on to the PAX and community itself.

One historian said Lewis & Clark were not only the first to travel so far West they were also the best. Again, so much the same can be said about the men of F3. Thanks for coming out on this Run Club journey in the gloom on a rainy Tuesday men…it didn’t stop you today and it won’t stop you tomorrow.

Naked Man Moleskin
