Introduction

I’m a Man.  I’m 40!  Black Diamond at the Iron Lion

Warm-O-Rama

PAX were advised that traditional Warm-O-Rama wasn’t on the table.

PAX brought microwave status.  Got hot fast.

The Thang

Thang 1:  Abbreviated Death By Burpee (6 mins.)

Using a playlist from my first Q, we did minutes 6-12 of the death by burpees.

1st minute: 6 Burpees

2nd minute: 7 Burpees

………….You get the picture.

Ended with a 2-column Indian Run to the North End of the football field.  Got a little sloppy, but we figured it out.

Thang 2: Bucket Ladders (30 mins.)

Waiting at the North end of the football field for each PAX, was a Home Depot (not an #ad) bucket with a 50# sandbag inside.  We then performed a ladder run for the length of the field.  (much love to The Cornbread) for the 4am field marking assist).

Bear hugging our buckets, we ran to the 10, did 10 lateral jumps over the bucket, and ran back.  Waited in SSH for the 6.

Ran to the 20, did 20 incline merkins on the buckets, ran back and SSH

Ran to the 30, did 30 pistol curls (vertical lift, raising the bucket to alternating shoulders, 15 per shoulder).

Ran to the 40, did 40 squats bear-hugging the bucket.  SSH

Ran to the 50, did 50 calf raises hold bucket.

That continued, ran 60 yards (to the 40) and did squats, etc, etc, etc.

At the opposing goal-line, we each did 10 blockees with the buckets, getting them as high as possible.

Thang 3 – The Donkey Run

This was a 2-column Indian run with a donkey trailer.  The donkeys (2 PAX) were responsible for catching up to the runners at the pre-designated checkpoint.  They needed to haul (1) 110# sandbag, (1) 45# ruckplate, and (1) 30# ruck plate.

At the checkpoints, while waiting for the donkeys:

  1. PAX did a rotating ring of Yurpees.  SSH, while 2 PAX stepped forward, did 3 yurpees and stepped back.   PAX stepping forward in a clockwise pattern.
  2. High plank hold, with (10) ranger merkins, (10) diamond, and (10) wide grip.  Holding plank in between groups of merkins
  3. Wall walks.  Handstand position, stomach facing the building wall.  Walk your hands out, then walk back and touch the wall (5 times?  10 times?).  Then hold in the handstand, while a coupon was passed down the line of attendees.
  4. Starplanks with big boys

Indian run back to flags for (40) crunchy frogs.

Circle of Trust

For years 36-39 of my life, my wife told me (2) things.  Get in shape and make nearby friends.

My response was always, “don’t worry about it” and “I’m almost 40 years old, I’m not making new friends.”

I joined F3 and it made me realize how hollow and scared/lazy that second sentiment was.  I’m 40 years old today, in better shape than I ever was (probably true), and have 40 guys that I laugh with every day.

I have an excitement and a new found purpose.  and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Naked Man Moleskin

Other than Rainman (site-q), Buttermaker & Nacho (mash unit), and a few others, I basically had my wish list of attendees.

I remember in mid-August scrolling through the Q schedule and seeing my name on a Black Diamond Q on my birthday.  I laughed out-loud at Babyhand’s joke.

I started to delete my name, but paused and let it simmer for a few hours.

I decided to take a run at it, and it’s probably my crowning fitness jewel from my 39th year.

I urge everyone to find their person that pushes them, but also to find someone to push.

Lastly, special thanks to Belichek.  He is the epitome of all 3 F’s.  His last push-up is prettier than his first, a great dude to hang with, and one of the most moral and ethical people I’ve ever meet.

Thanks again to all that came out.  You made this old man smile!!
