EC, Party of 1…
YHC woke up this morning at 4:30am to let the dog out and saw that no one else had HC’d for the EC. I immediately hit the snooze button. That went off, then I laid in bed contemplating hitting it again and just doing the regular run club and fart sacking the EC since no one else was going to be doing it with me.
After all, I had ran 9 and 10 miles the past two Saturdays straight.
Then it hit me. I’m not going to get faster and log these miles laying in bed. I had made a commitment to do the work, so it was time to get up and do the work.
The commitment was to myself.
As I drove to the Mammoth I listened to a mash up on Youtube that Gordon’s had given to me in the fall of Jacko, Goggins, and Eric Thomas. While I listened, the CoT formed in my head and I became more and more motivated.
I made a commitment to myself to catch the running pace of another PAX by the end of June. That is my goal. It is not that PAX’s goal. When I committed to the Miami Marathon, got sick and ran it anyway. I ran it because it was my commitment, not Road Trip, Gordon’s or Sam Walton’s commitment they had made to me.
i mentioned Chihuaha made a commitment to run a half marathon next month. He isn’t doing that for me, he is doing that for Chihuaha.
It doesn’t matter if you EC and you are the only one at the EC. Because you EC for you, not for your buddies. Not so you have someone to run or workout with. You EC so you can get better and reach a certain goal.
This carries over into real life. You do things for your M or your kids, not because someone else outside of your family wants it for you. You do it because you want the best for your family and you.
Do these things, set these goal and achieve them to fulfill you and your family unit…don’t do them to impress someone else.
We closed by saying an Our Father.

I absolutely LOVE working out, whether a BC or RC, with the La Luz/Mammoth crew. Just a different type of energy.
Aladdin-respect for doing the Celtic Classic last night, having a few and still getting the 6 this morning.
Shirley Temple-nice job on the double tap. You may not think it, but you are getting faster.
Chihuaha-your determination to get in longer runs and get faster is infectious. Much respect, brother.
Frida-glad we got a run in together this morning and keep pushing those miles out.
Chunky Monkey-appreciate you showing up on a day you had to cut out early. Part of a workout is always better than none at all.
Glenn-you ran the post with me the whole time and kept me honest when I felt like I wanted to slow down (you could see I did [on Strava] after you left). You could have been off like a jet. Thanks for keeping me in the game.
Cataracts-I enjoyed seeing you and the pup out there today and glad you were able to get some good miles in while the pup was busy trying to attack the wolves haha.
Until next time,
Laimbeer
