Murphy was killed on 28 June 2005 after he left his cover position and went to a clearing away from the mountains, exposing himself to a hail of gunfire in order to get a clear signal to contact headquarters for relaying the dire situation and requesting immediate support for his team.[14] He dropped the satellite phone after being shot multiple times but picked the phone back up and finished the call. While being shot, he signed off saying- “Thank You”,[15] then continued fighting from his exposed position until he died from his wounds.[2]
Who is your Hero? I think it is wonderful that we have a Hero workout and remember those who gave all. I am always moved by the testimony of the fallen we honor. But I also remember that there are other Heroes. One such Hero for me when I was a child was my Uncle Gene. Uncle Gene was not an educated man. He was a mechanic with likely less than an 8th grade education. He was over 300 pounds, not married and either lived out of the back of his truck which had a camper on it or at times stayed with family. After eating a large meal on family occasions he would sit back begin to stair out in space and tell stories that were so embellished we all new they just simply were not true. But Uncle Gene was not my Hero because of those things. Uncle Gene was my Hero because at 12 years old I lived alone with my mom who worked 2 jobs to make ends meet and that was still with food stamps and free lunches at school. And on many occasions the 1970 Pontiac we bought from a junk yard for $200 that had rusted holes in the trunk big enough for the groceries to fall out of and a gas gauge that did not work among many other things frequently broke down causing a family crisis and Uncle Gene would always come fix it accepting only a home cooked meal for payment. Uncle Gene was my hero because he gave what he had without question or hesitation. Unfortunately, he died before I ever reached a level of maturity sufficient to share with him my gratitude. But he is my Hero none the less as you or I might silently be for someone else when we give of ourselves. It’s not about what u have to give, but that u give.

Blues Clues is awesome with kids keeping conversation going with them the whole time and helping to motivate my youngest son. Gave my son some good tips on form that had it come from me, he would have whined and tried to shift the conversation to something his sister was doing wrong. ITG, we grew stronger together. Both my 2.0’s now think Blues Clues is the bomb.
