The Thang

We met in the middle of the field and got our feet chopping for a WOR version of AGiLE, MOBiLE, HOSTiLE.

(Feet chopping, Q calls Agile and pax touch their head staying straight, Q calls Mobile pax turn to their right and touch their head, Q calls Hostile pax turn to their left and touch their head. Continues on Q’s call. Goal is to get blood flowing and get pax used to hearing commands from the Q for the rest of the workout.)

Thang #1 AGiLE – Sideline to Sideline

We lined up on zero yard line, vertically along the hash marks every 2 yards. Pax laid down and prepared to get in low plank. On Q’s call, the PAX on the zero yard line does a lateral chop step to their left across all 11 pax holding low plank until he reaches the end and falls in. The next pax then starts and continues for 100 yards down the field to the left. Then rinse and repeat to the right. PAX  HOLD plank the entire time they are not chop-stepping

Thang #2 MOBiLE – Terrible 20’s

Mosey back to midfield. Break into two groups for TERRIBLE 20’s. Group 1 runs to the West bleachers, goes up the bleachers, down the bleachers then does 20 Merkins at the sideline. After Merkins they continue to run to the East bleachers and do the same only counting down 19 Merkins. Back to West bleachers for the same only doing 18 Merkins, Both groups rinse and repeat to zero Merkins.

Thang #3 HOSTiLE – 4 Quarters

PAX line up horizontally on the zero yard line.

1st Quarter run 4 x 10 yard sprints (10 No Surrenders)

2nd Quarter run 4 x 20 yard sprints (10 Burpees)

3rd Quarter run 4 x 30 yard sprints (10 Merkins)

4th Quarter 4 x 40 yard sprints…(Mosey back to flags with Sand Bag Guardian Run

*Q is calling cadence like a quarterback here…if ANYONE jumps the snap count, even with all the crowd noise, there is a 5 burpee penalty.

Finished with “Bear Down” which is a merkin ring of fire except the pax doing merkins does 2 “Bear = 1, Down = 2” with a 40lb sandbag on their back and passes to next PAX.

Circle of Trust

I love football. I love everything about it. I love Friday night lights, game day on Saturday, Sunday at noon and all parts of football. But what I love most is this right here…the practice. Being out with the team, being out in the gloom, putting in the work together, building something, getting better, working hard…the smell of the grass, this rubber shit we can’t get off our sweat, running around all over the place, calling audibles at the line of scrimmage, all of it. It makes me happy.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with this feeling but someday I will do something more.

For now, I’m just enjoying this with you all here today.

So I’ll leave you with this…one of my cousins passed away about 4 years ago. He had cancer all over his body. I remember seeing him in February and he was doing ok, going through treatment and stuff. Come March he was dead. He left behind a wife and a 9 year old daughter. We all miss and love him. At some point near his death he wrote a letter that I’ve seen now is in a big frame at his family’s house. There’s some words before but it’s the last sentence he wrote that serves as a reminder to us all:

“Do what makes you happy”.

These are the words of a dying man. It’s a reminder to find what you’re passionate about, care about and just do that man. Do what makes you happy.

Prayers.

Naked Man Moleskin

Shout out to Dialup who was showing scouts and the coaching staff what he’s made of leading the way through Terrible 20’s. Likely a roster spot awaits him on the 53 man however, there’s more training camp…not combine…training camp work ahead.
