Introduction

Exciting new AO with acres upon acres to explore. Yet, I decided to stay close to the flags because of the conditions. It was 50+ degrees on Wednesday. By the time I woke up, it was 31 degrees. The AO was wet, muddy, icy, and generally sloppy. Because I’m not that familiar with all of the grounds and the conditions, I needed to plan a parking lot beatdown.

The Thang

“Three Rounds of Pain”

4 lit cones set up around the parking lot in an oval. Each cone had an exercise listed on it for each of the three rounds. I used the HIIT+ app as a timer. The PAX were given 2.5 minutes to run lap around the oval past last cone they exercised at to the next cone and begin performing the exercises.

Round 1

1st cone: Burpees

2nd cone: Burpees with sandbag toss over the shoulder

3rd cone: Burpees over block

4th cone: Blockees

Round 1 was pretty savage if you ask me. 10 straight minutes of different burpees.

Round 2

1st cone: Bonnie Blairs

2nd cone: Sandbag toss

3rd cone: Rocky Balboas

4th cone: Thrusters

Round 3

1st cone: Squats

2nd cone: Hand Pass Merkins (compliments of Mrs. Doubtfire)

3rd cone: Curls

4th cone: Shoulder Press

What I loved about this circuit is that there are no breaks. Unless you think running around the cones is a break.

Circle of Trust

We lifted up prayers for our brother 1Bar who is navigating some issues related to the passing of his grandmother. We lifted up prayers for my daughter who was dealing with an undisclosed issue.

Naked Man Moleskin

Couple of things on my mind this morning. The first was a little backstory on those “hand pass merkins.” I’m not sure if that is everyone calls them, but that is what Mrs. Doubtfire called him. Most of you did not know him, but he was an incredible man. Quite the machine too. He used to kick ass all the time when he was on the Q. He did like his “hand pass merkins.” That’s why I added those in today.

The second thing on my mind is trying to continue to be a better father. It’s not just about the fitness, we need to strive to make improvements in this area of our life too. Last night my 13 year old was clearly upset about something. However, she wouldn’t tell me or my M what was up. Dad’s like to fix things, so that I what I tried to do. However, I had to park that plan for a bit and giver her some space. I reminded her that I made one of her favorite meals and that it would be ready in a few minutes. I also reminded her that I would be here later if she wanted to talk. Then she comes down to dinner and she was asked again what was going on. That prompted her to march back to her room and tell me and the M that she would just eat up there. I tried one more time to get her to join us. This time I promised that I would not ask any questions about what was bothering her and that she could eat with us without be questioned about it. I’m not saying that this was right or wrong. I’m still earning. I really wanted to share this story and tie it back to Larry Hagner’s Dad Edge Podcast. Give it a listen. He has shared many ways where we can improve our connection and relationships with our children.
