Circle of Trust

Thanks for being here on my VQ.  This is the part we’re we address the 3rd F on F3. If I’m honest I don’t like the word “faith.” It’s not the biblical idea that’s the problem. It’s how faith is understood in our culture. Too many people believe faith is blind, wishful thinking.

Scripture, however, defines it differently (see Hebrews 11, assurance, evidence) . Biblical faith is best characterized as trust. We don’t put our trust in something for no reason. We don’t blindly believe anyone. Rather, we put our trust in what or whom we have good reason to believe is trustworthy.

For this reason, if I’m going to share something it has to be the most important think I can give anyone and that is Jesus. Jesus of Nazareth.

Now there is something that I know is true for everyone here, and I know this because we all experience this frequently. We get this when we say things we shouldn’t, when we do things we are not supposed to do, when we watch thing we know we shouldn’t. I’m talking about guilt. Personal, deep guilt.

We feel guilty for one reason and one reason only. It is because we are guilty. It’s that simple. Like physical pain which warns us of damage and injury to our physical bodies, ethical pain—guilt—warns us of damage and injury to our souls. Trying to deny guilt is like trying to deny you have a broken arm.

Men, we don’t get rid of guilt through denial.
We don’t get rid of it by reading self help books.
We don’t get rid of guilt by working harder or trying to apply self control.
We get rid of guilt through forgiveness, and that forgiveness can only come from the One whom we have offended. The One who gave the law in the first place.

This is why I follow Jesus. I don’t follow him because he gives me a promise of health or wealth or a life free of problems. I follow him because he is the only one who offers me permanent forgiveness and true freedom. That’s the good news of the gospel, if we admit that we are guilty, repent of our sin and trust in Jesus, he forgives us and gives us freedom. Pretty good deal. And its available to all.

Any prayer requests?

Naked Man Moleskin

Random police officer from his car on our way to Mary dropped a “you guys are awesome!”. Surreal.

Unexpected surprise at picture time by the flags. Citadel started a new tradition by giving the Citadel flag to a Pax who has shown leadership and consistency posting at the site. I was the first Pax to get this honor.

Thankful is a good word to summarize today.
