So some of you might know a bit of my story recently… I’ve been out of work for over 7 months now due to Covid and have been struggling to find a new job. I’ve spent almost each day of these 7 months working out, searching for jobs and helping with my two girls who are both under 3…. not exactly what I expected to be doing at 40 years old. During this crazy time, I’ve had a few initial interviews with recruiters… one in-person interview that went nowhere and one series of interviews over three months ago for a job I really wanted that I didn’t get, which left me crushed. I’ve had to put our mortgage into forbearance as our only income is unemployment and the little money my wife makes doing work for her dad. I’ve had my moments where I feel like a failure… like I’m letting my family down. Despite all of this, I’ve done my best to keep pushing forward and trying to stay positive… hopeful that something would pop up any day. With Toby’s help, I redid my resume and LinkedIn profile, which seemed to get me noticed more recently. Recently I’ve had friends recommend me for jobs, which had led me to today. Later this morning, I have multiple interviews with a great company for a position that seems like a great match. I’m hopeful this is the role I’ve been waiting for and that everything I’ve endured to this point helped me get stronger to prepare for today.
The same goes for working out here in the gloom… each day we endure hard workouts that we might not always enjoy. We might not be able to complete all of the exercises or be able to keep up with the fastest guys. But we keep coming out to get better, to learn how to push ourselves further than the day before. We know that if we keep pushing forward, we will have success in the long run and will be able to reflect back on our previous discouraging times and know it was all worth it. I’m hoping that today’s interviews will lead to the same success.
“Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.” Dale Carnegie
