Introduction

Why does Early Outpost get to have all the fun?  Come on out for an Iron Lion Double Tap!  This will be a boot camp to get you warmed up for the run club at 6:30.  No Coupons needed.  We will be all over the place.  No terrain too treacherous.  HC in the thread!  WEAR BLACK in honor of Rivet from F3PugetSound

The Scene: I awoke at 3:30 am to the sounds of my dog puking in the doorway.  Hopefully it was just an isolated incident but was a bit of a rude awakening.  I quickly took him outside to finish and noticed how much it had snowed overnight.  Good thing I’m up.  I cleaned up the mess, got dressed and shoveled the driveway.  The streets were not too bad but they weren’t good either so I’m glad I left early.  When I arrived at the AO, I went on slack and told everyone to be safe.  As I got out to go check where I wanted to go, Ebenezer pulled in.  I quickly scouted the far pavilion on the other side of the hill and came back to 4 more PAX ready to work.

Some of you may know this about me already if you have read previous backblasts of mine.  My father died when I was 12.  It was November 21, 1988.  That’s what the crazy eights was for.  He was born February 14, 1951, that’s what the Motivators from 14 were for.  I struggled with grief for a long time.  Depression, suicide, general craziness would bounce around my mind.

Watching the show WandaVision made me realize that I was a lot like Wanda growing up.  I had created a fantasy world and had cast my father in many different roles.  I looked to Hulk Hogan as a male role model for saying my prayers and eating my vitamins.  My dad and I watched a lot of WWF and pay-per-view events like Summerslam and Wrestlemania.  I looked to Elvis Presley for musical inspiration because my dad resembled him a little bit.  I submerged myself in the comic book world and looked to Batman and Superman as the ideals of human potential and otherworldly integrity.  Always trying to fill that void of a male role model.

Eventually, through many years of spiritual struggle, I finally let God take the wheel.

I probably should do that more often as I find myself getting wound up tighter and tighter at times.  So if you find yourself like me getting wound up, agitated, frustrated or a little bit nuts:  Take a breath, pray an Our Father, and let go.

Dear Lord, thank you for your blessings today in all their forms.  Bless each of these men and all with whom they come in contact.  In your name, we pray the Our Father…  Amen.

Peace,

Cousin Eddie
