Introduction

Even though the Preblast was sufficiently witty, it wasn’t enough to attract more than 10 HC’s for this morning.  Considering I was coming downrange from Crossroads, and not many people know me at DT, I expected this small of a small crowd.  Kind of a nice change from the 25+ PAX we have been seeing at the Ridge.  I had a burner of a workout planned, even though I had to stray from my norm because Corningtone was coming—he was my recent FNG and he HATES running.  Could I wipe him out without making him run?  Challenge accepted.

I arrived nice and early around 4:40am to set up in the field.  Thank goodness nobody was waiting in the parking lot.  I’m all for being early and excited, but I always think its strange when PAX arrive before 5:00am when there is no EC.  Good to know these DT guys are somewhat normal.  Set up four corners in the field, roughly a 100-yard by 20-yard rectangle—the cones were lit up, looking just intimidating enough in the gloom.  My feet were already soaked from the morning dew—this was going to be a good morning to crawl around on the grass!

Moseyed (more like a walk) back up the hill at 5:05, just as Cousin Eddie was planting his flag.  PAX were starting to roll in…but no Corningstone.  Then Scotts informed me that he pulled his HC early this morning.  Damn it!  I briefly considered changing the plan to lead the group on a Naperville adventure, but decided to stick with what I had.  Next time I’m on Q, Corningstone is going to run, run, run…

Met a new PAX from Wisconsin—Silver Bullet.  This morning was his first post since moving to Naperville two weeks ago.  Boy, I hope he likes burpees, hand-release merkins, alligator crawls and running up a hill…

The Thang

Thing #1 – Four Corners

Station One: Hand-release merkins (squat shuffle 100 yards to next station)

Station Two: Burpees (alligator crawl 20 yards to next station)

Station Three: Speed Skaters (squat shuffle 100 yards to next station)

Station Four: Hydraulic squats (alligator crawl 20 yards to next station)

Three times around the stations: first lap = 9 reps each; second lap = 18 reps each; third lap= 27 reps each.  Good golf numbers.  Thought about making it a par-72, but that seemed a little ridiculous.

Thing #2—Bombs on the Hill

Mosey to top of hill. All PAX hold plank. When I yell, “Bomb” (ok, I actually yelled, “FORE” because this was supposed to be a golfer workout) all PAX run down the hill, do 10 merkins and 10 big boys, then sprint back to the top and return to plank position.  Repeat when any other PAX yells, “FORE!”  We did this 6 times before Mary.

Circle of Trust

I believe a COT should be thoughtful, and I believe it is thoughtful to be thankful.  I thanked Scotts–he is the reason I decided to Q today.  I don’t live near DT, but I brought Scotts into F3 and I enjoy posting with him.  (I would have also thanked Corningtone…had he showed up!)  I thanked Bjorn–last night I sent him a message with the details of my workout and he was quick to respond with feedback.  That was very much appreciated considering we had never met before–it made me feel very comfortable this morning.  I thanked Moonlight because he was on Q the first time I posted at DT, and I really enjoyed his workout that day–it allowed me to appreciate DT as an AO.  After that first workout I looked forward to putting my name on the Q sheet.  I thanked all the other PAX that showed up today–I know that sometimes it isn’t exciting to post when you don’t know who the person on Q–and nobody knew me!  But I sincerely appreciated everybody’s participation, and I look forward to returning.

I thanked all these people and let them know the powerful, positive effect they had on me.  I believe one’s true strength lies in their effects.  We are all strong enough to make somebody laugh, and we are strong enough to make somebody cry.  We have effects every moment of every day, some intended and some unintended.  We are responsible for all our effects–so let’s choose to pay attention to our effects and try our best to have positive effects on others.

Ended with a short prayer.

Naked Man Moleskin

This DT bunch was incredibly nice–too nice actually.  Everybody was gassed, yet nobody yelled or swore at me,  which is standard treatment for whoever is on Q at The Ridge.  Other than a few groans when I demonstrated a Hydraulic Squat (and Scotts making fun of himself because he thinks he is old) there wasn’t much mumble chatter today.  Not sure if that is the sign of a good Q, or if DT needs to step up their mumble game…

While holding plank on top of the hill I found two quarters…tossed them by the shovel flags, so somebody can put that towards their coffee fund.  If Corningstone ever shows up, maybe he will find the quarters…

Finally, a big thanks to Upchuck for the idea for Thing #2.  And Thing #1 actually.  Not that he will ever read this since he lost access to Naperville’s Slack.  If any of you ever have a chance to attend one of Upchuck’s Q’s, you should definitely make the trip.
