Introduction
PreBlast – Wednesday August 31, 2022 Virtuosity The Complex
A little over a year ago I got a call from Wet Wipe with some news that sucked to hear, but I also knew in my heart was inevitable. Virtuosity had served its purpose, run its course, and was being ‘retired’. The final official beatdown on Virtuosity was one year ago tomorrow, Aug 31, 2021. For those of you who have joined in the last year and have no idea what the Hell I am talking about … Virtuosity was our virtual version of F3 beatdowns that started when the pandemic began. This was a way for guys to still ‘connect’, shield lock, and suffer through beatdown’s together all via Zoom. It was my lifeline. I am forever thankful for what it did for me (and I am sure many others). Tomorrow, YHC will be bringing you a ‘traditional’ Virtuosity beatdown with some special guests. I said it before and I will emphasize this again…don’t confuse virtual with easy. We may be reliving some virtual style beatdowns tomorrow, but you will still WORK and work HARD @channel.
I do want to say that first and foremost, you should all consider getting out there for IPC Week 0. This week being a practice week will be a great opportunity for some of the newer PAX to get a taste of what IPC is all about and will help support our region against the Nation. For those willing to do the makeup on Friday or maybe just feeling something different, I look forward to celebrating and reflecting on Virtuosity during tomorrow’s beatdown. Bring your coupons and SYITG!
Got to the AO around 5am. It was nice to catch up with Ozark and Backdraft in person. TPS Reports got there pretty soon after and we finalized the plan.
As 0515 rolled around, I gave the disclaimer, 5 core principles, mission statement, and credo. At this point, I asked Ozark and TPS Reports to join me in the middle of the circle as they would be co-Qing this Virtuosity-esqe beatdown with me. Time to warm up!

LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND. LEAVE NO MAN WHERE YOU FOUND HIM.
How Virtuosity was born… This is a story of last-minute, late night meetings between 6 men, trying to figure out what a stay at home order meant for a group of guys who worked out together outside in the morning. Trying to figure out how to keep the momentum moving for nearly 500 men looking for direction when the world seemed to be coming to a stop.
The difficult decisions we made we knew would drive a gap into our brotherhood. We had deep division happening, we had ugly fights spill into slack. Men we thought we knew suddenly taking sides and lines drawn through disagreement. And that’s the last thing any of us wanted.
There was a lot unknown, a lot of uncertainty, a lot of emotion and passion, a lot of right, a lot of wrong.
And that’s where Virtuosity started. It was one way to bring the best of what we could bring of F3. It wasn’t perfect. And we weren’t quite sure how it would work. We had to test out a few things and modify as necessary. And it was never the plan to keep this alive forever. But it wasn’t also the plan to have it spark F3 in new places, or answer the need of men traveling, or provide a way to connect when schedules didn’t.
It became a place to grow, to challenge, to reach far beyond a park in Naperville or Oswego.
F3 Tri-County F3 Granite. F3 Brooklyn. F3 Kenya! F3 Dortmund even joining. The dozens of men who made Virtuosity their first post or their VQ. Fire stations, Winnebago’s, boardwalks, beaches, mountains, etc.
Virtuosity was the best of F3.
Free.
Open to all men.
Held outdoors rain or shine.
Led in a peer rotating fashion.
And always ending in a circle of trust.
Naked Man Moleskin
Virtuosity played a large part of my life during the pandemic. Having this option to connect with PAX and get workouts in pretty much every day was a huge lifeline for me. I will forever be grateful for what it did for me. I also know that all good things must come to an end. In the year since Virtuosity shut down I have made many new connections with PAX and got to lead in different ways that were not previously possible. I would like to think that I continued to accelerate.
It was great to ‘get the band together again’. TPS Report and Ozark are amazing dudes and for them to go along with this In Memoriam Co-Q was awesome. These guys helped legitimize Virtuosity throughout it’s life and always showed up, did their duties, and picked up plenty of Q’s as well. I took a quick look at the stats this morning…Between TPS Report, Ozark, and myself, we Q’d 84 times on Virtuosity…about 1/3 of the total beatdowns hosted on the virtual platform. It was great to get one in together again one last time.
