Come run for 60 tomorrow as we uphold this standard.  If not here go live the standard at one of tomorrow’s other fine choices we are fortunate to have in F3 Naperville.

Warm-O-Rama

10 Tappy Taps in cadence

20 Imperial Walkers in cadence

30 second quad stretch each leg

800 meter mosey lap around baseball fields

The Thang

2.25 mile loop (take bridge to Knoch Knolls, right on Knoch Knolls Road, Right on ring road, right on Washington back to Complex parking lot)

800 meter loops around baseball field (I originally said 3 laps and then said 2 so I thoroughly confused some PAX’s but we did 2)

Repeat the 2.25 mile loop (attempt a negative split by going faster than first loop)

800 meter loop around baseball field

cool down run around parking lot for final 2 minutes

Circle of Trust

Lots of chatter on Slack right now.  Putt Putt sent out a chapter from Q source that resonated with me. It is where I learned about the 3S2T standard for a work out.  Really resonated when Shirley Temple made a comment about having a standard.  See below for the definition of the standard.

What struck me most was this standard is about preparing our bodies for all that life has in store, expected and unexpected.  Having a mindset of preparedness is critical for us men to be able to do more than just look good at the beach or pool.  We have to be physically ready to handle the expected and unexpected challenges of life.  To be protectors, providers, men of action.

Made me thinking of a lot of questions…

What are you preparing for?
Are you preparing to protect your family, be a better man or to look good?  Looking good is not a bad thing but if that is our main motivation we are missing the importance of being a prepared man.
Are you preparing so you set the standard for your family, friends community?
How will you respond in an emergency?
If natural disaster hit today am I prepared to handle it?
Do you put yourself in uncomfortable, challenging and stressful situations to train my mind and body to be ready for these situations?  Does this training make me tougher physically AND mentally?
Are you cpr trained?
What kind of training do you seek out?  talked about the trauma med class I am going to be taking soon.

Do you have situational awareness?

I learned an simple approach to this from Mike Glover (former special forces stud) OFF which stands for Observe, Fight or Flee.  Live in a constant state of observation not fear.  You are fully observant and aware of what is going on around you.  So when something happens you can be present in the moment to decide do I need to fight my way out of this situation or am I in a place where fleeing is the best path to take.

He talks about how often times people say when they hear a gun shot their first thought is it is a firework.  They lose precious time by not making accruate assessments of a situation which slows down their reaction time to an event.

Talked about how I have taught my kids about OFF.  One real life example was when my teenage daughter told me how she taught this to her younger cousins when she noticed a car sitting in a parking spot by a playground they were on.  Nothing happened but she was keenly aware of the potential of a threat and thinking about her responses if someone in the car had bad intentions.  Also passing along the knowledge to her cousins to be more aware of their surroundings.

So to sum it up if we look for the easy road on our physical fitness journey how do you think you will respond when you are called to be a protector or face a real challenge in life.  We have to be men of action, pushing ourselves into the uncomfortable so we are truly prepared to be all we need to be for our families, friends and community in the hardest times we will face in life.

Naked Man Moleskin

Beautiful morning with a great group of men that pushed hard for 60 minutes.  C-Bus, Supply Chain, Mary Lou are officially BDRC regulars.  Great to have Skilling (aka War Face – ask him how he got the name) join us.  Keep coming brother.  To all the regulars thank you for continuing to make BDRC such an inspiring post every wednesday.  And for making each other stronger, faster runners with more stamina than when we started.  If anyone has questions on what BDRC can do to elevate your speed and stamina just ask Shells and Cheese – he was flying…secretly my gut tells me he was busting ass to catch Serena…maybe next week.

My bad on messing up the number of loops for us to do.

My commitment to being uncomfortable and being better prepared as a man is to do more strength focused boot camps to improve my strength while maintaining my running speed and stamina.

What are you going to do to be better prepared for life?
