05/13/2021 - Iron Lion - 5.13 Iron Lion Lincoln Games Q

Introduction

You tired yet?  Coming into the back half of the week.  LFG!  I have lots of ideas to get us moving and use those coupons.  Please HC early so I can get an idea of how to best set the Q.  32 Pax is a lot different than 16.

We’ll be on grass.

We’ll be on pavement.

Bring gloves and a coupon.

As 5:10AM rolled around and I saw Dorn looking like he might have been shot, Riunite sitting on a coupon like he wasn’t doing anything, and Chazz sprawled out on the grass after some hard core EC, I knew I’d have to modify or have a mutiny.  I already had a workout that was more focused on leg muscles not used in a typical run and nothing where I had to put weight above my head since covid shot #2 from 2 days before was KILLING my shoulder.  We made it work.  I think it was fun for most people too, as the mumblechatter was on point and YHC had plenty of help suggesting things to do, even though I had quite the plan in place.

Warm-O-Rama

We did motivators from 7, Tappy Taps to a 10 count, Imperial Walkers in cadence to 10, Arm Circles and some Slow Burpees.  I love the stretch that those slow burpees do and it seemed to put about half the Pax’s minds in the gutter.  Plenty of chuckles, but YHC was just trying to get everyone loose.  The weight of the Lincoln Games seemed to be weighing heavy on people and fun was had.

The Thang

This was a big group and I have seen big groups struggle to move around the AO well.  I did my best to keep movements short with WIDE areas to get men spread out.  I couldn’t go much into the grass and used a lot of the high school parking lot.  Also with a big group at varying skill levels and injury levels I wanted to do things that kept the group together and did not make people feel left behind.  We all needed to work together to get through another Lincoln Games point grab.

We did a mosey from the flags to the high school lot, then 15 merkins, did some sliding things on the parking lot lines to work on our lateral movements.  We did 20 shoulder taps and then jumped about 75 yards with hops like you’d do with a jump rope.  Followed this with a plank for a minute and then a one minute wall sit.  This allowed us to catch our breath and watch the sunrise for a moment.  PLENTY of mumblechatter throughout.

This was followed by some LBCs, then a full sprint the length of the high school parking lot.  This was liked by some more than others.  We did some side straddle hops in cadence then mosied back to the flags.

From here, we reunited with our coupons, because running with coupons is not something you’ll see in my Qs very often.  We continued to do these exercises together.  I have heard of AAR before, basically every moment of this 20 minutes was a DAR (during action report.)  Cousin Eddie, Nacho Libre, and BabyHands together is really a treat.  I really think this made for some good commentary and raised the level of fun.  We did curls, toe touches, chest press, coupon swings, sit up punches, single arm curls, lat pullovers and got into Mary.  YHC called out scissor kicks and demonstrated flutter kicks.  If there had been a roof on the joint, it would have been blown off.  Pretty sure no one has ever messed that up before and man did Sulley hear about it.  It was a do as I do, not as I say moment and we continued on.  Highlight here was pickle pointers which was liked by some way too much and a couple of guys may never come back after this.  Not sure, but it’s the Lincoln Games.  Anything goes.

Circle of Trust

Talked about “winds of change” and sailing.  You can sail into headwinds if you have a good sail (your body) and a great hull / rudder / all of the stuff you can’t see under the boat (F3 support, familial and friend support).  All of those will get us through the changes many of us are facing with return to work.

The key to going into a headwind is getting yourself at an angle to the wind and using the support under you to move forward.  We need to know the headwinds and adjust so we can continue to go forward.  We also need to continue to build the body (that which others can see) and the support group (that which is harder to see but will support you).

Naked Man Moleskin

What a Q that was…  I think many people were spent and I hope people just feel comfortable enough around me to know that I want to have fun and work hard.  If those 2 things can go together, GREAT!  30 Pax is a large group, and I loved it.  A few people were very talkative and I do believe that added to the atmosphere.  My hope is that this was a good enough workout to help build the body, but not such a beatdown that it would impact trying to get other activities complete that day.

Thank you all for coming out with me and thanks to Rainman for having my 6.  I tried to make that easy for you bud, but with that many people there’s bound to be some wrangling.  You did a great job.
