Introduction

Arrived about 6:10am, it was  chilly, but not too cold…..With the number of HC’s the prior night and the new COVID restrictions, I already knew we would split into 2 groups.  Set up was easy, put the Signs with exercises at the start (used glow sticks just incase it wasnt going to be light enough to read)  Also set out cones at start.  Did this in two locations for the split group.

Gopher arrived shortly after I finished to go through the exercises, he would be CO-Qing with me, again this was adapted for COVID restrictions.  Once we were done going over it, PAX were set and it was time to get going.

  Single arm Farmers Carry out, Heal to Toe 15 steps holding in right hand, 15 steps holding in left hand

  20 Burpees

  Single arm farmer carry back (same guidelines as initial carry)

  12 Thursters

  Single arm farmer carry back out (same guidelines)

  18 Burpees

  Single Arm Farmer carry Back (Same Guidelines)

   Do this until you get to 20 Thursters and 10 Burpees

Naked Man Moleskin

So I had a different COT planned, but last night Sparkler had posted that between our AOs we had over 100 people post…. So that got me thinking and reflecting on where I was before F3 to where I am now.  Before F3 Back in August I was working out regularly 3-4 CrossFit workouts a week, with weights in between.  Then I started tapering off on the CrossFit, and just was lifting weights, October hit and I started going less and less to the gym to lift, because of my travel Schedule, eventually not going at all.  I told myself once the 1st of the year hit and travel slowed down I would get back at it.  Well January came and my wife was 8 months pregnant, so I told myself after the baby was born in February I would get back at it.  Well baby was born and I still hadnt gotten back at it, but kept telling myself I would.  Then comes march and COVID comes about, all gyms closed so I couldn’t get back at it.  I started making unhealthy decisions, and really just not taking care of myself.  I started drinking a couple beers every night 2-3, then eventually was up to 6-8, staying up past when my wife went to bed.  I would still get up, knock out my work quickly, since I wasn’t traveling and Do stuff around the house but I was just making unhealthy decisions.  New guidance with COVID came out that said get out and exercise, so I told myself I would get out and run, or bike.  I never did, I would take my dogs on 3-4 mile walks, but that’s the only activity I did besides stuff around the house.  Things kept on this way for a long while.

My neighbor and I Co-Hosted a 4th of July party on July 3rd.  Vern came with his family, he got a text and said he was going to go pick up beer from a friends house and asked if I wanted to tag along.  I didnt realize he had alterior motives.  On the way he started telling me about this workout group that he was part of, and that soon it would be coming to plainfield.  By the way it was Boston Butts house we went to to get beer.  Later that month Vern messaged me about the plainfield location opening up and asked if I wanted to go, so I did.  I got through that first workout and didn’t know what the hell I had gotten myself into.

Fast forward to a couple days ago.  I was in California and was doing Virtuosity through F3 Naperville, It was 3:15am when i was doing it.  I was at a Best Western, but it wasn’t a hotel, it was a motel set up, and I was on the ground floor, so I would do the exercises in my room, but the runs I would do in the parking lot.  After the workout I went to the front Lobby to get some coffee, the girl behind the reception desk said what were you doing?  I told her I was working out, she said at 3 in the morning?  I was like yeah my guys are back in Chicago so its 5am for them.  She said all I saw was you kept disappearing into your room, then would come out sprinting up and down the parking lot…….

Morale of this story, Is I am in a lot better shape mentally, physically, emotionally than I ever have been.  It is going to be getting cold outside, so reflect and remember why you are doing this, where you were before you were here.  I guarantee you are not out here for three points, you are out here because you want to be, because this is where you belong.  Remember that when things get tough.
