Introduction

Another beautiful day at Iron Lion.  Pulled in front of Lisle H.S. and started setting up the gear.  Bootlegger pulled up and offered to help.  I initially said; “No”, but quickly changed my answer.  I’m trying to always accept help when offered now.  It makes both parties feel good.  Don’t believe me.  Try it out sometime and see.  Woody quickly figured out what was about to happen ITG.  All I heard was “this is going to suck”.  I took that as a compliment.  Back to the AO to start greeting the PAX.

The Thang

Split the PAX into three teams of five.  Lined up in three lines and did a coupon Indian Run to the start of Thang 1.

Thang 1 – the only one.

11’s

I used three fire hoses for each team and tied each one to a coupon.  One team member would run the fire hose out and then pull it towards them.  The other PAX did various exercises until the one pulling the fire hose retrieved it and said; “go”.  The other PAX would then run up and a new person on the team would take over.  We did this until all 5 team members had gone.  Rinse and repeat on the way back.

Exercises done down and back during hose pulls.  Planks, Squats, Bonnie Blair’s, Hydraulics, LBC’s, Big Boys, Merkins, Shoulder Taps and  Tappy Taps in no particular order.

Thank you kindly to all of you for being here.  You could be anywhere else right now, but you are here.  The workouts are free, but there is a cost and I hope I made good on that tab today.

Back on this day in 1863 President Lincoln addressed a crowd of roughly 15,000 people on the sacred battle grounds of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  President Lincoln in two minutes crystalised the theme of the day and gave in your humble communicator’s opinion the most important speech of all time.  I’d like to read to you an excerpt from that speech.

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I feel honored to have been born on such a significant day in history and I’m thankful for all of you. It’s only fitting that the founders of F3 Naperville chose Lincoln’s image for our logo.  Let us remember that we meet here ITG thanks to those that have paid the ultimate price with the idea that Fitness, Fellowship and Faith are omnipotent.

I missed Qing on Veteran’s Day, so this was my make-up Q to honor that day.

The fire hoses used today were meant to represent all first responders and front-line workers (nurses, doctors, teachers, delivery drivers, servers and anyone else dealing with the public at this time. To me they are all on the front-lines).  They are all pulling to get us through this (like we pulled on the hoses today) and I wanted the Thang we did today to honor their work.

The coupon tied to the fire hose was meant to represent the weight that those who served carry.  It also represented the weight those families whose loved one’s gave all defending the freedoms we enjoy carry.

I brought this into my COT at the end, but it was not as scripted as the rest.  I explained how I felt like everywhere I turned, something was being taken from me.  I’ve made and will continue to make sacrifices for everyone’s benefit around me.  That’s just being responsible.  However, I asked everyone to please not be a thief of someone else’s joy.  The sayings; “let’s hope it lasts, or we’ll see how long that lasts” to me have become all too common.  I’ve used them myself.  All I hear now when I hear these phrases is; “I hope that fails”.  The light is more important than ever now and deserves our increased devotion.  We need to hold onto and protect the light.  It is what will get us through this and prevail in the end.

Great mumblechatter by all and only one team finished everything before 2 MOM.  Um, yeah.  Belichick is a beast and is probably even tougher post surgery.  I was feeling every bit of 46 this morning when he rode past us doing Mach 3 on his bike.  Faster man?  Respect?  Definitely.

Thanks to Sulley for helping out with putting the gear away after the workout.  I did not blow it and accepted his help immediately when offered.  Lesson learned.
