Introduction
As Appletini so delicately highlighted at 5:43 pm yesterday, there was no Preblast yet for The Outpost AO. A quick check of the Q Schedule then showed the slot was blank. BLANK, I tell ya!!!!! Alright cool, YHC snagged it and was gonna put it on em as best as he could. I was thinking “Black Diamond” style thangs and the PAX were more than warned in the Pre-blast. With a little EH’ing from the aforementioned Appletini, the squad started to assemble their HC’s and it was setting up to be a beautiful Friday morning.
Warm-O-Rama
All were welcomed and it was time to roll. We moseyed about 1/4 mile to a big field just south of the library and circled up for some WoR:
Tappy Taps IC x 15, Imperial Walkers IC x 15, Arm Circles IC x 15/direction
The Thang
Thang 1: All PAX picked a parking space and we kicked off an 8 minute, 46 second (in honor of George Floyd) AMRAP with two exercises: Mary Catherine’s and Hand-Release Merkins. Started with 5 MC’s and then 10 HRM’s. Increased the MC’s by 5 each round while keeping the HRM’s at 10. Think some PAX got up hear 40 or 50 MC’s!!
Thang 2: Ran over to the parking lot just north of the Neuqua Freshman building for some 11’s. Exercises were 4-ct American Hammers and Minnesota Mike Tyson’s. After the Hammers the Pax ran across the whole lot and after the MMT’s they Bernie Sander’d (run backwards).
Thang 3: Started to make our way back to the Flags. At a skinny spot in the adjacent parking lot we jumped into the next round of 11’s. Two exercises were 4-ct Mountain Climbers and Hydraulics. After the Climbers the Pax had to Broad Jumped and after the Hydraulics they Bear Crawl’d. Didn’t get all the way through this, but worked until about 0557. We circled up in a big parking lot and held High Plank for 86 seconds (and 43 milliseconds) again in honor of George Floyd.
Recover RECOVER. Whew!! YHC’s watch showed 597 Active Calories. Now, these fitness trackers are all relative and counts are going to vary from person to person, and some would say wildly inaccurate, but for YHC that is a PR for a 45-minute F3 Bootcamp. We #GOTSOME!
Circle of Trust
Lots of noise and chatter going on all around us these days. Certainly more than normal with COVID pandemic, George Floyd, racism movements, etc. Rather than trying to be profound and philosophical YHC just wanted the PAX to take a minute (86 seconds, 43 milliseconds) for a Moment of Silence. A time to just process their morning. Maybe reflect on what they just accomplished. Maybe think forward to their Friday. Maybe say a prayer for the sick, the healers, the leaders, etc. We ended with a quick prayer and that was a wrap!
Love you guys,
Uncle Rico
Naked Man Moleskin
YHC has not been shy about being more conservative and more “sheltered” amidst this COVID crisis. It’s partly how my personality is and being a rule follower and partly because I’ve felt it my obligation to help set an example and help make those feeling the same way more comfortable. This was actually only the 3rd or 4th time getting out ITG since the mid-March shutdown.
I have gotten comfortable-ish with the SIPO and living day-to-day that way. I am still working on getting comfortable being out and around a big group of guys sweating and spitting and sneezing. When one Q’s though, you are in complete control of how you want to structure the morning. There are generally no real ‘surprises’, no ‘gotcha’ moments. I thought Q’ing would be a great way to control the morning and maybe make guys of all beliefs and opinions feel comfortable too. During all Thang’s each PAX was in their own parking space with plenty of space away from the next guy. When we moseyed we did so mostly in the middle of the streets so PAX could spread out and feel comfortable. WoR and CoT was in the center of a huge field or parking lot. It’s not natural to be so spread out, just as it’s not natural to have been socially isolated for so long. We/I are drawn to the fist-pounds and bro hugs and it takes a lot out of me when I can’t do those things. But just being out there with this group of guys this morning was the best. The mumblechatter, the grumblings and groanings, the pushing the guy next to you to do just a little bit more or go a little harder, it’s what makes these mornings such an awesome way to start a day. Even though it’s uncomfortable to me, I am glad we’re back the way we are. I am happy F3 has a Core Principle of “held outdoors rain or shine” as that seems to be the safest place we can all be these days. I am thankful for a Shared Leadership Team that has done their best to keep our community moving and growing and accelerating.
With Love and Respect,
Uncle Rico
