Introduction
Tomorrow we go heavy, no PT, just put the weight on your back and move. This is your chance to try out a heavier weight, add a sandbag or bring something to carry. I’ll have a few toys as well 😉 . Wear boots, we’ll be off path, and I’m just guessing there will be some snow on the ground. HC below, leave the excuses at home and let’s roll! (no plans to run, but targeting a 15min mile pace, get some!)
YHC was a little disappointed in HIMself this morning, leaving the filling of sandbags, drying shoes and unboxing kettlebells until the morning. To boot, had to circle back home to get the correct pair of footwear, so it was a bit of a slow start. However, still rolled in at 5:05am with what was an impressive train of HIMs all rolling in at the same time. I had to pause and appreciate the moment. 25 cars pulling into a park district parking lot at 5am has to have people/cars passing by scratching their heads wondering what they’re missing. The Complex has some big numbers on a regular basis and I was honored to have so many HIMs rolling in ready to put in the work this morning.
Side bar, got out of the car and realized I left my pack in my M’s car…who would save me? Mayhem to the rescue! Thanks brother!
Warm-O-Rama
Quick count, arm circles OYO and a roll call had 26 PAX ready to go.
Two lines, heaviest weight up front and encouraged PAX to come tap out the guys up front. (After the AAR this morning, I will implement the ideas of easier way to “take turns” carrying the weight.
Toys:
2 75lb sandbags
2 40lb sandbags
1 20lb sandbags
2 25lb barbell plates
2 20lb dumbbells
1 53lb kettlebell (crowd favorite ;))
1 35lb kettlebell
1 16lb Sledgehammer
The Thang
Goal was to average a 15 min mile pace, there were some doubters out there but that wasn’t going to stop us from trying.
The first mile was quick, but the group got pretty strung out with the weight ending up all over the place as PAX had different paces.
After the first mile, we regrouped, YHC attempted to provide better instructions for keeping all the weight up front and improving the handoff of the sandbags. Unexpectedly, whomever had the big sandbags seemed to be moving faster than everyone else! This would continue on the second leg.
Circle of Trust
Prayers given to Fertile Myrtle and Ronda Rousey.
YHC started 75 hard on 1/3/21, most people talk about how HARD it will be to give up alcohol for 75 days, some talk about the workouts and diet. We all have our own vices and addictions, all of us. 75 HARD is a chance to take a look at your lifestyle and face those with the support of others, and for us in F3, the support from our brothers in close proximity to us. Today is day 25 for me, its been a long time coming and I couldn’t be happier.
Heard a song the other day that resonated and I wanted to share the lyrics with the PAX as part of the COT. I have know idea who the songwriter intended this for, I assume himself, but it could have been an old friend, etc. Sometimes you have to let go and free yourself of that dead weight holding you back.
Hometown hero at the bar, Burned out high life super star
You know, Kept a buzz to fill the hole, Loved the lights and stole the show
Someone I used to know, Would stay another round
Someone I used to know, Ran himself in the ground
It’s been a long time coming, Couldn’t keep on running, Had to hit rock bottom to know
When you keep on losing, With the path you’re choosing, And it’s time to let go
Of someone that I used to know
Naked Man Moleskin
53 kettlebell = hard to carry and its hard to find a trading partner
Need to put a leash on Dorn, Webelos, Ronda Rousey and Urban Cowboy…can’t tame wild horses
Looking forward to running that one again with a little more order brought to handing off weight and targeting a slightly quicker average pace as an entire group.
Goldber clocked us at 15:01 average mile, but I think he’s just trying to be the villain he so desperately wants to play. I had us 14:35…nice work HIMs!!!
