Introduction

Preblast was written, and HCs rolled in. Looks like it was going to be a good crew who would push hard and we could get something done.

Alarm went off and YHC did a quick weather check – rain in the forecast? That’s new. Added a rain proof layer and made my way to the Citadel.

Cold and windy – some weird mixture of sleet, rain and snow. Perfect for what I had planned.

Pulled into the lot and saw Stay-Puft getting a doing some EC laps – badass. 5:10 rolled around and I got myself out of the car (not badass) and greeted pax as they arrived.

Warm-O-Rama

WoR was pretty quick – wanted to get moving!

20 High Knees in Cadence
10 Tappy Taps in Cadence
10 Arm Circles forward, 10 backward (palms up) in Cadence
Quick shoulder stretch.

The Thang

Thang 1:
Pearls on a string:
Mosey to the base of the hill by the softball fields 10 Merkins on YHCs command
Mosey to the railroad ties on the path 20 Squats on YHCs command, 10 Merkins
Continue the mosey along the path to a clearing with a Maple (I think) on the right side. 15 LBCs in Cadence (so 30 LBCs total), 20 Squats, 10 Merkins
Continue the mosey across the spillway near the playground 20 SSH in cadence (so 40 SSH total), 15 LBCs in Cadence, 20 Squats, 10 Merkins
Continue to the base of the hill near the playground

Thang 2:
11s – Burpees at the base of the hill and Bonnie Blairs (the hard way) at the top. We made it through 8 Burpees, then timed out – had to make our way back.

Thang 3:
The return – we did an exact reverse of the journey along the way (except did it as an Indian Run, rather than a group mosey to keep PAX together a bit better) starting with 40 SSH, 30 LBCs, 20 Squats, 10 Merkins, then at the same clearing 30 LBCs (well YHC was distracted by a pocket dialing phone, so we did a few more while I was multitasking), 20 Squats, 10 Merkins, then at the railroad ties 20 Squats, 10 Merkins, finally at the base of the hill – 30 merkins. YHC was feeling good, so just kept going.

Mary:
20 Big Boys on YHCs command
10 Freddy Mercurys (normal)
10 Freddy Mercurys (painfully slow)
Standing Hamstring Stretch, Standing IT band Stretch

Circle of Trust

YHC has been discouraged by all of the posts on 3rd F about kids taking their lives. It seems like there could be a lack of happiness in our youth. Seems like there may be an opportunity to help people understand how to have joy in life.

Ray Chambers was a very successful man on Wall Street in the early 80s. He made a ton of money, but realized he wasn’t happy. He gave up his successful career, and ultimately built another successful career in philanthropy. What he learned is there are 5 keys to happiness (YHCs thoughts are in parentheses):

  1. Live in the moment (don’t dwell in the past, enjoy the moment you are in, and use it to build for a better future)
  2. It’s better to be loving than to be right (this is something YHC can definitely work on with my M and 2.0s)
  3. Be a spectator to your own thoughts, especially when you become emotional (doing this will allow you to learn why you are being triggered, or what is the root of the negative thoughts you may be having)
  4. Be grateful for at last one thing every day (focus on the good)
  5. Help others every chance you get (YHC had nothing to add here, seems pretty simple)

I share this with you because I think we have an opportunity to lead by example, and to teach our 2.0s how to be happy, especially when times are difficult.

Prayers were had, especially for Handy Manny’s family and Adeline’s family. May they both feel God’s presence.

Naked Man Moleskin

YHC planned this, but probably should have scoped out the hill yesterday to see there was no longer grass on it. Sorry for the muddy slippery mess – that was not part of the game plan.

Thank you all for coming out and supporting me and embracing the sucky weather. Somehow the crappy weather made it more fun for me – hope it did the same for you!
