Introduction

Yup, another morning of 1° weather with a real feel of -17° and yet more snow coming steadily down adding to the foot or so already here. YHC has been posting from the garage alot on virtuosity, still cold, but not as snowy. Decided I’d grab the phone and stand and do this one from the narrow path I’ve carved out in the driveway. Snow makes everything better. The extra setup, left me scrambling, so kudos to Bean Counter for picking up my six and getting us rolling with some SSH to get the blood flowing before we all froze.

Now I have nothing against running—I’ll probably do some later—but this morning we will remember that the answer to the question “How Much Land Does a Man Need?” is “six feet from his head to his toes.” (It’s Tolstoy, look it up if you’re bored 😉

Warm-O-Rama

After Bean Counter got the kinks shaken out of us with some side straddle Hop we turned and burned with 20 Burpees, followed by some IC Tappy-Taps, and 20 Mountain Man Poopers IC. No time to waste this morning though as we move on to….

The Thang

Thang 1

In the exicon you can find this one under danger zone, though perhaps with not so much coupon (why do burpees when you have a perfectly good coupon in your hands and you can just do blockees?) The exercise is as follows:

10 minutes of AMRAP 10 reps each of coupon:

  • Overhead Press
  • Curls
  • Rows
  • Swings
  • Goblet Squat

Every minute on the minute stop your reps and knock out 3 blockees and then resume the exercises

Well that froze the crap out of my fingers…. so on to

Thang 2

This one is more or less the Dark Webb routine from the exicon (which I may have read cover to cover last night……it’s not as long as you might think)

This consists of a series of exercise pairs in an ascending 1:2, 2:4, 3:6 etc ratio until you get to 10:20. The fun was as follows:

  • Merkins:”Raise the Roof”/Air Press
  • Jump squat:Bonnie Blair
  • Burpee:Donkey Kicks

Then Mary in the same theme aka Captain Thor

  • Big Boy Situp:American Hammer

( I had a bonus round of Burpee:SSH in the hopper but didn’t need it)

Circle of Trust

Getting up early is hard. Going outside when it’s freezing cold is hard. Doing coupon work when your gloves can barely keep your fingers from freezing is hard. But doing these hard things shows us that we are capable of a lot more than we realize. When others are relying on us, we know—because we have done hard things—that we can do what needs to be done. An anecdote that I see repeated in strength training circles goes like this: A new athlete asks a veteran “Does training ever get easier?” the veteran responds “No. But, everything else does.” Thank you gentlemen for joining me this morning and doing the hard things, so that we everything else we are called to do will get that much easier, and we can be of more use to our families, coworkers, and communities. Go out and do something good.

Naked Man Moleskin

Seriously it was cold. I switched to my computer for Name-o-rama and none too soon. I turned to my phone to log out of zoom there, and found that it had turned itself off, not because the battery was dead, but because it was too cold. Didn’t know that was a thing. Apparently Happy Meal suffered the same fate. Stay warm out there.
