I was excited to Q at La Luz.  I wanted to sign up earlier, but the Q sheet was full and this was the first opening, so I grabbed it.  Having only been to La Luz a handful of times previously I did not know the entire landscape that was at my disposal, so I thought we would have some fun in the parking lot.  I had created 2 workouts for the La Luz crew that would join me ITG and opted to pull forward the one that involved some friendly team competition.  I used a similar concept I have used in the past at BP for my basketball beatdowns, but instead of shooting hoops for points, we tallied up points based on how many rounds every PAX could complete in 4 minutes, while performing 25 reps of a given exercise and then completing a movement of 20 or 40 yards.  With the beatdown set, I made sure to update my playlist, load the cones and chalk in the car.

Morning came early.  I arrived at La Luz early to set things up.  There were a handful of PAX already there getting ready for a little EC run.  I got the cones set up, the chalk outlining the rounds laid out and my coupon and speaker ready to go.  The PAX flooded into the parking lot and as 5:15 hit, I go the show started.

Welcome and Disclaimer provided.

Covered the 5 core principles as we had a few FNGs.

The Thang

Count off by 2’s.  Team 1 on one side of the flags, Team 2 on the other side.  Each PAX completes the 25 reps and then performs movement to cone and back.  After each PAX completes the reps and movement they give their team a point.  Rinse and Repeat until 4 minutes is up.  Losing team of each round does 5 burpees.

Thang 1 – Team Competition – 4 min AMRAP – 25 Reps then perform movement to cone and back.  Rinse and Repeat.

Prayer Requests:  Were offered up

Closing Comments and Prayer:  Focus was on Legacy.  What do you want your legacy to be?  Most of us will not leave behind a bronze or granite statue of ourselves as a tribute to the impact we have on this earth.  But the impact we can have on others can be generational and have long lasting impacts on the lives of others which is bigger than any statue.  On our gravestone it will read your birth date and death date and it is the dash between that symbolizes our life here on earth.  What do you want your legacy to be and what kind of impact do you want to have on others lives so that a part of you lives and is carried on through others after your last breath.  Give some thought as you head into the weekend.  What actions do you need to put in place to start/continue to build your legacy?

Naked Man Moleskin

As the group was divided into 2 teams, the energy and mumbblechatter was high.  PAX welcomed a little friendly competition.  After I explained the concept of how Thang 1 would work and how the scoring would be performed and that the losing team had penalty burpees to do – the energy bar was raised even higher.  Many of the rounds were close in score.  The winning teams took much joy in watching, critiquing, and offering “helpful” suggestions on the burpee form of the losing team, which fueled the fire further.  Although I had planned for 7 rounds, we only had time for 6 rounds.  Going into Round 6, Team 2 held the overall lead by a score of 3 wins to 2 wins for Team 1.  If Team 1 were to win the final round, they would tie it up and if Team 2 won, they would be crowned the winner.  Much trash talking was had and debates on where teams were starting in relation to the “starting point”.  Team 1 came out on fire in the final round and it looked like they were going to tie it up.  However, when the time was up and the tallies were counted, somehow Team 2 edged out Team 1.  Team 1 was in denial and demanded that we needed quality control in place to audit the results.  Unfortunately we did not have footage of the event so the final results had to stand.  Team 2 was the winner!

The introduction of a little team-based competition definitely intensified the workout as PAX pushed harder than they would normally.  Calories were definitely burned on this glorious morning.  I think the PAX appreciated the beatdown and had some fun in the process.

I appreciate all that came out and the energy and effort that all brought to the table.  You all crushed it.

Until next time.
