Introduction

Sunday morning I was scrolling through slack and I came across a post about the passing of Hasselhoff’s daughter, Mary. This tragic event really moved me. I thought about what I could do to put something together to celebrate her life. I was signed up to Q the Black Panther Ruck Club Q the next morning and I did not have a plan on what we would do yet. I thought about some of the Hero WODs that we have done before and decided to come up with one to honor Mary.

Warm-O-Rama

Mary entered God’s Kingdom on November 2, 2020. November is the 11th month of the year so each warmup exercise was designed to have 11 reps.

The Thang

Thang 1:

The “Mary” for Mary Eunice McGavin

Mary was 19 when she entered God’s Kingdom and she was born in the month of May, the 5th month.

The “Mary” was designed to include 5 exercises of 19 reps each. After the exercises, the PAX ran a “cross country lap” because Mary liked cross country running. After each set of exercises, an extra lap will be added.

19 Step Ups (Ruck On)

19 Ruck Curls

19 Ruck Shoulder Presses

19 Ruck Swings

19 Ruck Thrusters

1 “Cross Country Lap”

Repeat the above and add one extra lap each time through. Most PAX completed 2 1/2 – 3 cycles.

Circle of Trust

We pray for all whose lives
have been touched by tragedy,
whether by accident
or a deliberate act.
For those who mourn,
immerse them in your love
and lead them through this darkness
into your arms, and light.
For those who comfort,
be in both the words they use
and all that’s left unspoken;
fill each heart with love.
We ask this through Jesus Christ,
whose own suffering brought us life,
here and for eternity.
Amen

Naked Man Moleskin

I can’t even imagine how painful this is for the family and her friends. This is the smallest thing we can do to recognize Mary. Please accept my deepest sympathy and may God bring comfort and healing.
May 2, 2001 ~ November 2, 2020 (age 19)
Active Duty as a Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corp in San Diego, CA
Preceded in death by her brother John Mark McGavin (September 4, 2004); maternal grandparents Warren and Jeanne Graff; paternal grandparents Thomas and Joan McGavin; Eunice Kuehiling who was like a grandmother to Mary.
Mary was a proud graduate of Oswego East High School and was looking forward to continued service to her country in the FBI after she concluded her duty in the Corps.  Mary had a love for horses, inspired by her sister Margaret, a love for all sports inspired by her brothers especially pole vaulting and cross country running.  She also loved her many adventures at church, in school, and around town with her sister Molly.  Mary is most remembered for her kindness, smile and love of others.
