Circle of Trust

CoR. Announcements. NoR. Prayers.

I used to have a lot to say at our CoT’s. The energy and motivation to spur my brothers on naturally overflowed into words of encouragement, of support, and hopefully some wisdom. Today, those words are gone. It’s all I can do to get out of bed early to get out here, let alone pull something profound together to share. It transforms into a weird, false sense and distorted understanding of leadership. How can someone lead yet feel so despondent? Aren’t leaders supposed to be strong? Leaders don’t necessarily have all the answers – often they don’t. But it’s the resolve, the strength, some inner fire of stone and resilience that keeps then steady during turbulent times, so much so that others look to this leader to lean on when they themselves feel weak.

We often praise strong leadership. Our workouts lend themselves to honoring strength, a very understandable conclusion given the outcome and purpose of exercise. The vision of the strong one leading and never faltering is enticing. We naturally want to follow that. To be like that.

But are we missing the point? What if true leadership comes in weakness? What if in times like these, when you’re in a valley you can’t see the end of, with plenty to worry about, plenty of self doubt, ample amounts of stress and failures? What about then?

I’m in this circle because I genuinely enjoy creating fun exercises, trying to make guys curse and swear and groan. But I’m also here because I’m weak. I’m not on top of a mountain right now, that’s for sure. But I’ve got hope. Hope that in my weakness HIS strength is made perfect. That it’s easy to see our SKyQ cause the guy before obviously doesn’t have it together so how the hell is he here?

I know someday I’ll have a mountain top again. And there will be more valleys. So for now, I’ll work on trusting day to day that my weakness, and accepting it, it was is needed. Not my strength, not my leadership.

I hope you to, if you find yourself in a valley, lift your eyes up to the mountains to see where our help comes from.
