Introduction

I cannot describe how exhausted I was yesterday, so I was forlorn and dispirited about awaking this morning.  Thankfully, the 6-7 hours was enough to refresh me and we started promptly with a little mmblechatter before diving in.

This workout was inspired by President Calvin Coolidge, whose biography by Amity Schlaes, I am presently reading.  President Coolidge, of course, was the nations 30th president, so to make sure no one forgets that we burned through 30 exercises of 30 reps (or a thirty-second hold, as the case may be).:

Announcement (thank you Bean Counter)

FNG – Welcome Ikea!

Name-a-rama – Since it was a large PAX posting from all across the country, we asked everyone, in addition to their given name, age, and F3 name, to share the situs from which they posted.

I shared what was on my heart (see, Naked Moleskin).

With no specific prayer requests, at Bob Ross’ suggestion, we lifted up the 2.0s to the Lord, asking for his grace, guidance, and divine health on their lives.

Naked Man Moleskin

Prompted by a variety of experiences, conversations, and incidents, over the past several weeks, I have, mindfully, and with purpose, formulated a routine through which I am focusing on developing personal growth, in all areas of my life (spiritual, physical, familial, financial, etc.).  This is a challenging endeavor and one which I have only begun, to be sure, but I have at least embarked on the journey.

During the COT, with only a couple of minutes, I tried—inartful as it may have been—to exhort the 25 HIMs who joined me this morning, to pursue growth in their respective lives.  Reevaluating the relationships across the spectrum of my life has been both rewarding and sobering.  There is a myriad of relationships in my life—my wife, children, some good friends, business associates—that are an incalculable benefit to my development; but there are others, from those same categories, that are equal parts detrimental.

I firmly believe there is nothing haughty or obnoxious about such a reexamination of one’s life or making changes to focus more on edifying relationships – and so, I set out to reorient my life in just such a direction.  In so doing, however, I fell under a deep conviction that, while I was on the right path, an equally important piece of the puzzle had eluded me.

At first, I looked solely at how my life benefited from the several connections and relationships (and, again, that is important); but then I had a revelation that what might be even more important, paramount even, is evaluating what am I giving to the others.  Am I providing as much encouragement, affection, friendship, etc., (if not more) in those bountiful relationships?  In the seemingly detrimental relationships, am I putting the effort in that the other person (may) deserve?  Is that relationship not bearing fruit because I have not planted the necessary seeds?  It is a fascinating experiment!  Honesty, especially with yourself, is probably the best policy, but it sure can grieve a soul.

Long story short, or, at this point, I suppose long story long, I want to encourage anyone who reads this to consider the role you play in the multifarious relationships in which you find yourself – as father, son, brother, business partner, customer, parishioner, mentor, mentee, or as just some guy walking down the street.  In each of the roles, give more to the other person.  Edify them as you would like to be edified yourself.

In the hopes of raising my children with a traditional value-based Judeo-Christian upbringing I like to ground as many life’s lessons as I can impart to them, in Scripture.  As I shared in the COT, I believe the Bible gives wisdom on both spirituality and practical living.  When I started this process, 2 Corinthians 6:14 arose in me.  The verse speaks, in the Car Seat translation, of not being unequally yoked to others who may hold you back from your potential.  That is a great value with which to live; but, as I have since realized, make sure you are not the one to whom someone else might be unequally yoked.
