Introduction

Being 3 weeks away from IPC 2020, I thought it would be fitting to pull an actual IPC from the past and have it be the workout.  I searched the archives and landed on the 2018 – Week 2 workout as I thought it was one we could actually finish in the time allotted (with some minor modifications).  I got some new tunes queued up on my phone then night before, set the alarm-just in case- as my body is now conditioned to wake up at 4:30, and went to bed early.

The morning came early.  It was 59 degrees out with 92% humidity.  I headed over to the OP, the place where it all started and parked down at the far end of the parking lot so I could set up the cones for the days event.   Half of the field had sprinklers going so I logically set up shop on the part of the field that was dry.  I paced out by 25 yards, dropped off my coupon and music and headed back to the parking lot, as cars were now starting to trickle in.  I touched base with my Site Q – Flo and filled him in on what the plans were for the day.  Just then I looked down at the far end of the lot, into the field where I had just set up shop, and the sprinklers were now going strong, right where we were going to do our Thang.  No time to fix it now, as it was 5:15 – time to get the party started.

I provided the Welcome and Disclosure and we were off to WoR.

Warm-O-Rama

Warm-up (IC)
  1. Arm Circles (10/10)
  2. Abe Vigodas (15)
  3. SSH (30)
  4. Tappy Taps (20)
  5. Imperial Walkers (15)
  6. Grab Coupon and Mosey to Soccer Fields for Thang 1

I ran ahead of the PAX as I had to quickly grab all the cones, my coupon, and speaker I had set up, which were now all wet due to the sprinklers, and quickly set things back up on the field adjacent where the sprinklers had just completed…..or so I thought.  After running around getting things set up as quickly as possible, not wanting to waste the PAX time, I was already gassed as I tried to explain our Thang for the day.  Those that have done an IPC before all moaned and said, “we are actually doing one?  I thought we were just preparing for it”  My thought – what better way to prepare than to actually do it.

The Thang

Thang 1 –2018 Week 2 IPC (Slightly Modified)
Each Set AMRAP for 7 minutes (Actual IPC was 8 minutes). Do 25 Reps. Run 25 yards out and back.  Rinse and Repeat.  After completion of each round rest for 1 minute (Actual IPC was 2 minutes)
  1. Squat Thrusters
  2. Arm Curls
  3. Kettle Bell Swings or Upright Rows (Added Upright Rows as an option)
  4. Man Makers

We were in the middle of round 3, when all of a sudden the sprinklers went on again in the field we were doing our magic.  All the PAX quickly moved back to the original location, as the sprinklers there had now stopped, and I ran to grab the cones again and reposition them on the other field – again!

To keep the fun going, for MARY we did the same format as above and did BBSU’s as the exercise for the remaining 4 minutes.

  1. BBSUs

Naked Man Moleskin

IPC is no joke.  It challenges you physically and mentally.  All that showed up today got a flavor of what’s to come.  As we got further and further into each round, the grunts and moans become more prevalent as the PAX were pushing hard, all the way up to when the alarm sounded.

Roach Coach – Out of the gates early – helped push the pace

Nala – Seemed to love that we saved doing the Man Makers for the last round.

Flo – Trusted Site Q kept the PAX safe from the sprinklers

Toady – Showed up fashionably late as he initially went to The Citadel and quickly realized he was at the wrong place

Sprinkler – Soaked up the IPC experience and seemed inspired by the workout and IPC in general

CVS – Was successful in bringing out his dad (Hot Lips) for what I think was his 2nd post ever – both this week.  Crushed the workout

Hot Lips – Crushed his 2nd workout with F3Naperville this week.

Thumb Drive – Thought about fartsacking – actually turned off alarm, but decided to come and was happy to see he was able to complete the IPC and is looking forward to participating next month in the real deal

Bob Ross – Always the Lion and the cheerleader – encouraging all to keep pushing while he himself ate the Thang for breakfast.

Goldie – I warned him, he probably will not like me after today’s workout.  After he crushed it, he put my mind at ease, letting me know that he still liked me.

All the PAX crushed it today!

Good attendance was had at coffeeteria where we discussed the likes of IPC, colleges, and kids – to name of few.

It was an honor to lead you men.  Keep getting after it.
