Count-a-rama (17)

Prayer Requests – Rand McNally and his family, Moonlight and Brooks niece and family, YHC’s neighbor John who lost his wife yesterday morning.

Name-a-rama

Welcomed FNG Rock Chalk. Big Kansas State fan. Brother of Shooter McGavin. We had no choice but to give him this name.

I think my plan was to follow the theme of the weekend, of F3-24, and of Thanksgiving and just speak on gratitude. This took a slight turn however as I started talking about my neighbor John and the experience of him losing his wife on Friday morning. I was laying in bed when I heard the sirens going off around 7:15 in the morning. It finally clicked that it was so loud because it was right outside my window. My wife and I ran over to the window and out hearts immediately sank. We knew that there had been some on and off health concerns going on next door and for some reason, we just had a bad feeling. The firemen came and went pretty quick. The ambulance showed up, went inside the house for a few minutes ,then left. Me being nieve thought this may have been a good sign. Maybe it was a false alarm? Those thoughts quickly disappeared as I later saw a grey conversion van pull in. Two people from the van went inside the house, came back outside, then went back inside with the stretcher. Unfortunately our fears were confirmed. We found out a little while later from our other neighbor that it was in fact the wife of my neighbor John. What started off as a great Thanksgiving, spending time with my immediate family, being grateful for what we have, turned into a feeling of solemn. From what I have heard, the neighbors had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed some quality family time. I believe it is a blessing in disguise that their daughter was home for the Holiday.

In summary, my message is that YES, we need to be grateful for everything that we have. Be grateful for family, for time spent together, and for the little things in life. However…we need to remember that we cannot simply be thankful for one day (Thanksgiving) but to carry that mindset with you all year wrong. Tomorrow is never promised.

Naked Man Moleskin

Huge thanks to TPS Reports and the rest of the leadership group for encouraging and ‘allowing’ this virtual post as an option for those who wanted to participate in the F3-24 workout, but could not make it out to the physical AO this weekend. It was an honor to Q it and an even bigger honor to be a part of the huge success of F3-24. We had a few PAX who even stepped up and pledged to donate additional funds beyond the $5 suggested amount.

As for my neighbor, my heart continues to break for the family. I know that my neighborhood and community will rally to do whatever we can to help out. When the time comes, my family and I will do whatever we can to be there for them.
