Introduction

I Q’d this workout exactly one month ago on Virtuosity after I recovered from Covid.  Backstage gave me the highest compliment in saying that it was one of the most well organized virtual workouts he’s done.  Time to experience it IRL.  Bring your coupon.  HC in the thread.

The Scene:  34 degrees, clear and crisp.  I overslept by 15 minutes so I knew I wouldn’t be able to write out the instructions in chalk.  I arrived about 5am.  Woodwind was already there planting a flag.  I set up the lighted cones and welcomed the PAX.

When I was born, I was baptized a Methodist.  I grew up going to Sunday School until my parents got divorced.  My father quickly remarried and we started going to a Lutheran church.  Across the street from this church was a Catholic church.  I had a friend that went to that church and I had visited it once or twice.  I was always drawn to the architecture and the feeling of comfort when I entered it.  When I was 12, my father died of Hodgkin’s Disease, November 21, 1988.  I didn’t find out until the next morning.

I left my step family and moved in with my mom.  I continued my confirmation studies as a Lutheran because I thought that is what my father would have wanted.  My mom drove me over an hour each way to the Lutheran church until I was confirmed.  My mom wasn’t much of a church goer so after I was confirmed, we really didn’t go to church after that.  I would catch the occasional Service for Shut Ins on cable but as I got older, I began to become resentful of God and what he had done to me.  He had taken my father from me.  He had robbed me of a strong male role model in my life.  He had abandoned me.

This is what I thought for many years.  In college, I started to explore and read about other religions:  Hindu, Judaism, Wiccan, Celtic druids. I even turned to Star Wars and the teachings of the Force because I longed for something more.  I then started to see that all of the world’s religions and mythologies came from one Truth and there was something bigger than myself.  Everyone was a little bit right and everyone was a little bit wrong.

Fast forward to my late twenties, and I meet my M.  She’s a cradle Catholic and within the first month of dating, she invited me to church.  After sitting through the Mass, I was moved.  I asked her how to become Catholic.  A year plus of RCIA and I became a Catholic and we had become engaged.  We had a Catholic mass wedding and have baptized both our children as Catholic.

However, for the last few years, my M has been struggling with the Catholic church.  I have been struggling with trying to get her to go to Mass.  God is always in our home and in our hearts.  We don’t need a building to show it.  We are still on that religious journey and I expect we will be on it until we meet our Creator in Heaven.  Be there for each other today.  Be there for your wives and children.  Listen to your inner voice and follow your heart.

Lord, thank you for bringing us out into the gloom and allowing us this time together.  I pray that you watch over each one of us as we go about our day and bless each moment that we share with others.

Peace,

Cousin Eddie
